This crossing signal sits next to the mines train loading facility.

At the very end of the line we found these switchers.

As we headed back for Colorado we noticed that the U.P. MOW crews were still working on the line east of Thompson Springs. This west bound U.P. freight train was waiting to proceed past the MOW crew.

Interesting engines. Where exactly were these located?

    Kevin,

Traveling south from I-70 it will be a right turn on highway 279. You will stay on 279 all the way to the potash mine and the engines are sitting about 1 mile south of the loading facility.

What a find! A Milwaukee Road hopper! With the "America's Resourceful railroad" placard intact!

I made it back into Utah this past weekend. Here are some shots from the trip.

I found a couple of former D&RGW / Rail Gons in Thompson Springs, UT.

Before heading home I decided to swing by Potash, UT to see if there was any activity at the mine. I didn't see a whole lot of action but I took a few pictures.

    Signal Maintenance

U.P. was maintaining and or upgrading the signals just east of Thompson Springs, UT this weekend.

    Mill Tailings Train

On my way into Moab I caught the end of the mill tailings train that was headed to Crescent Junction.

Although blurry, this shot shows an unpatched SP unit. I believe the number on it was 343.

That Crescent Jct photo is outstanding! I love the variety of bright colors--reds, greens, browns!

That old Cat wheel loader no doubt has Grande heritage, as old as it is.

I agree. I have found myself looking at that photo at least six times now.

Ben, your pics are awesome! I'm a little hesitant to add mine since I'm still learning how to take good ones :)

As we came into Helper, this loaded coal train was sitting on one of the mains. And a warbonnet on the head!

After spending a few minutes at the yard, we heard the horn blow and the cars start moving. Looks like a good chase up the canyon!
    Heading back out of town.
