Mid train helpers were 3 UP. Found that kinda odd, but maybe that's the norm here. a couple more heading up canyon with the Price River below Heading into the Nolan Tunnels
Between the Nolan and Kyune Tunnels (angle due to pic taken from a moving vehicle) Entering the Kyune Tunnels
As I was climbing back up the embankment, I heard a low rumble, and by the time I turned around and got the camera ready, all I caught was this set of helpers running light back to town through the bushes. If only I would have stayed a few more minutes, I could have got them coming out of the tunnel! So we chased them back down the canyon. About to enter the Nolan Tunnels. The 3rd unit was sure burnt to a crisp in the middle. The whole Nolan Tunnels
These guys were moving pretty fast, and traffic was not cooperating for any more good shots, so my last effort was at the signal bridge again, just below the power plant. And even though it's patched, it still says Southern Pacific! This was by far the best chase I've had, up the canyon, then back down. Soo much fun! Mike
Thanks Mike! I have to say that I think that your photography skills have done passed mine. You captured some excellent pictures!! Ben
Very nice! Who was your tour guide? Because I want to borrow this person when I visit Price River Canyon...
Hemi, no tour guide, just me (and this is the first time I've stopped in the canyon!) You don't need one anyway, all those pics I took were within a couple hundred feet of the road. Definitely not like the Front Range! Mike
I didn't think I'd make it back to the canyon so soon, but we found a travel trailer for sale in Salt Lake, so a trip to there from Grand Junction gave me another opportunity. I was skeptical since I had NO train activity what so ever from GJ all the way to Helper. But as soon as we hit the canyon, we came upon a Utah Ry heading up the mountain. Couple grab shots while driving by Mike
:tb-rolleyes: Thanks guys, that's a lot like the terrain I'm modelling and your pix will guide my color pallet and placement patterns ...
He was moving pretty slow, so I had time to get up to the Kyune tunnels for some more pictures. Mid morning was not so good sun-wise here at the Kyune tunnels. Afternoon sun would be better, but I'm not giving up on this one! Heading towards the Kyune Tunnels somebody needs to trim that tree back! mid train help Mike
This was the last shot as we headed over Soldier Summit. The rain clouds had started moving in and time was against us to get to Salt Lake. Hope to catch more as we head back to GJ with the new RV =) Mike
FWIW dept.: Here's where I'm at now ... maybe I'll do a scenery thread to share and get advice ... working now to get some Aspen groves and yellow shrubs installed ... more shrubs, more shrubs, and maybe yellow/golden prairie grasses ... the photos here have been eye-opening as all I had to work with was one trip through the area a while back ... :tb-biggrin:
Great shots as usual Mike! I should have called in sick and headed over to Utah with you. Bill your layout sure looks to be coming along nicely!! Ben
