    I don't often ride trains.
    But when I do...........

I like to ride on the roof.

I firmly believe that distance passenger trains would be more popular, if they still had these domes. The views possible are far better than the later full domes- which really only let you look out one side.

Sunset after a day of disassembling Tower 17 in Rosenberg in order to move it to the museum grounds. The upper floor with the interlocker cabinet still mounted in it was moved as one piece.

Out on the Saugus Line, the LAPCX holds the main as the hogger checks his lead truck brake shoes. Was heard on the radio, that he thought his shoes were creeping up. Near Vincent CA.

NS 21M passes the old mill in Wernersville, PA, westbound, about 7 miles west of Reading, PA. The station here has been restored by the Heidelberg Heritage Society, but NS won't allow work on the platform canopy, due to proximity to the busy mainline.

Taken yesterday in Clinton, SC, a CSX freight from Greenwood, SC on former SAL track joins former CN&L track (as seen to the right). Several miles east of town, the lines again separate. The joint trackage was created with the SCL merger of 1967.

I had a nice sunny scene here, but a cloud moved into place just as the train arrived.

From October 1995 at Tunnelton, WV, West Virginia Northern's SW-1200 #52 readies to depart with a tourist train. The road was long a coal hauler, but declining tonnage and a try at hauling tourists couldn't reverse the WVN's fortunes and it shut down in 1999. Few SW-1200s had dynamic braking -- note the housing ahead of the cab.

Simpson Timber had those too, for those long cuts of log cars coming down steep grades.

Found out, BNSF has been doubling up northbound empty coal trains.
Have no idea how long they been doing this! This was the first one I've seen.

October 1994 at Q Tower in Hardman, WV. This remote tower on the B&O's Newburg Grade was closed in June of 1998 and demolished. In the days of steam, it was a busy helper station. My wife and I were invited upstairs by a friendly Operator who invited my wife to throw the armstrong levers to set up the switches and signals for this train. Under his cautious stewardship (and his muscle), the route was set up. Fun times. :)
