I would like to re-paint some of the Intermountain 'Trinity' hoppers, but am not sure how to dis-assemble them (and don't want to mess up a lovely model!). Does the etched walkway come off without damaging the rest?? Does the roof come off? Or do I have to re-spray the whole car in the colour I want and then paint the walkway aluminium??? I haven't got any of the Exactrail Trinity cars - do they come apart easily for re-painting?? Any help/advice gratefully received David Milburn (North Yorkshire,UK) yorkshirengauge.org.uk - Home
I've had to remove a few Trinity roofs before to re-glue some loose weights. The trick to that is to disengage the bottom of the diagonal supports under the ends of the roof walk. However, I have never taken the roof-walk off the roof itself. I think all the side supports are press fit, but I'm not sure. If you get the roof off though, you should be able to tell fairly easily. Good luck, Gary
I have an undec at home...I'll try to take a look at it and maybe some photos. I'd say that an existing painted one will be more difficult but at least seeing how they go together should help.
Thanks for the replies - any suggestions/pics would be welcome. I wish they did the Trinity's in kit form like the other 3-bay hoppers David
According to Frank at Intermountain, you can order ANY of their "current production" products as undec kits. They might be delayed until the next run, must be ordered direct, and you will pay full retail, but you can get them that way. He has stated this on numerous occassions. I suppose a dealer could order them that way too but those were the stipulations he presented.
In what scheme are you repainting the hoppers? The walkways are not always necessarily metal colored.
