This one I really worked hard for.... I caught several frames of this train and it was probably nailing 50 m.p.h. easily:

I also caught my first "white cab" CSX unit in Charleston:

For those of you that have not been railfanning in Charleston, let me tell you that there are lots of opportunities! Both CSX and NS have yards there, and Intermodal traffic abounds! (There is a large port and shipyard fairly accessible). If you want containers, this area has got 'em and they are EVERYWHERE!

This one in Charleston too... late afternoon, (with the white cab unit previously pictured), but this time pushing an intermodal train (mostly empty stack cars) down the line, back to the port!

Harold, that is certainly some update! You are very lucky to be able to go out and shoot photos anytime. Some of us have to wait and save for infrequent trips 'over the pond'.

At least we have your pictures to give us pleasure, and keep in touch with current happenings [IMG] Thanks!

    Harold,
That CSX #8606.. Thats SD-60 I believe, being I think the numbers for the SD-50's were 85 series! If i'm wrong someone correct me.. I know its either one or the other. But anyway. The older GM series Diesels in my area are very common! I live right on the B&O's very own.. "Sand Patch" Grade in Pennsylvania. CSX uses the big SD-50's and SD-60's on this grade always or the trains would never make it up the mountain!!!! The grade is the continental divide between the Chesapeake Bay water shed, and the Mississippi River water shed! So its a pretty steep climb ..... :D

Anyway here you'll see from anything of a AC4400, to C44-9CW to a G.E. -8, on the point to a SD-50 to SD-60 and even some SD-60M's I have already seen the SD-80MAC's on the point and SD-70's on the rear.. Its unreal of the motive power on this grade!!! I'm going to try to get some pictures if possible at Sand Patch.... Hopefully I get lucky!! :D

I checked the original photo... believe it or not, I can actually read the lettering on the uncompressed original photo and it does show "SD50". In case I was wrong, I checked the CSX photo archives website and it confirms that SD50's were numbered 8500-8676, while the 8700 series started the SD60 series. It's easy to get them coinfused.

I guess you do see a lot of power where you are!

    Harold,
The crazy part is.. I see it all the time! I mean the numbers on the loco's are like downloaded in my head now! HA :D Anyway I seen the number and was like I see those all the time.. Mostly on the rear as helpers.. But I see my fair share of alot of motive power!

The last time I was at Sand Patch tunnel and at the helper pocket. There were 5 SD-50's and 2 SD-60's setting and waiting... Sadly I didn't have my Digital camera with so I didn't get to grab any shots.. and the easiest part is they were sitting still.... HA :D A good thing for a slow camera! I will try to see what I can snap of in different frames.... I'll post 'em when I get some good ones!
