A few pictures from a recent visit to Barnetby to test out my new Nikon DSLR. Class 60 on loaded 100 tonne oil tanks.
The new class 185 diesel multiple units now run all the Manchester Airport-Grimsby trains. One each way per hour. Close-up of the automatic couplings on these units
A class 60 still in blue, one of only two, I think. This is working the iron ore trains between Immingham docks and Santon steelworks
Doncaster-Immingham "Enterprise" hauled by 60034 This had a long string of covered steel carrying wagons
A Network Rail inspection saloon making a tour of the region's lines approaches behind a class 31 diesel. (Not actually an inspection, just a day out for the bosses!
Central Trains class 153's operate the Lincoln-Grimsby service. These trains are my ride here and back home.
Alan: That's really pretty neat. Seems like you saw a large cross section of engines. When you did the "visit to Barnetby," was it a long trip? Did you spend the day? Seems like it was a good outing. Are you always assured of seeing this many trains? Again, very nice and thanks for the pictures.
Alan, your photos are excellent. Either you have mastered your new camera, or it's very forgiving.......:teeth: The automatic coupling appears to be overly complicated as compared to US couplings. I'm concerned such complexity might lead to higher failure rates. Do you have any information as to their reliability?
Flash, the trip was May 24th. I left my local station at 0703 and after changing trains in Lincoln, arrived at Barnetby about 9 am. I left on the 4.15 pm train. so had plenty of time there. I saw about 60 trains during that time. Barnetby is one of the busiest locations in the UK for freight traffic, which is why so many enthusiasts go there.
I didn't think British railroads could handle cars that heavy. And they have brake wheels on the bogies? That's strange.
