I was used to SLR's back in film days, so it came fairly naturally to me. The coupling is only used on multiple units, not locomotives. They are very widely used and are very reliable.
Most of our freight cars are now 102T-104T. Including coal hoppers and oil tanks. The oil and coal trains are usually 30-odd cars long. The iron ore trains also have 102T cars with a total trailing load of about 3,500 tonnes. As the ore is very heavy, often the cars are only half full, although this one is obviously lower density so has a larger volume These cars have rotary knuckle couplers The brake wheels on the bogies are only hand brakes.
