Yeah it does. It also makes me wonder how such an alignment might have affected towns like Coos Bay or even Tillamook. With such an artery present, those towns may have become bigger ports.
It's still in litigation Tim .. we thought we had an agreement at the last court hearing, but I guess things went sideways after I left (had to go to school). Next hearing will be 1:30PM on the 12th. We are moving some freight again ... which is a big help to keep things going. But, there's no way that it can satisfy the nearly two million dollars debt.
Tom, I'm not sure what you mean by 'condition' but we currently have the MOW crew from the CORP working on our tracks. I received word that a FRA inspector will be visiting us soon. As far a the legal fight that's going on, it is still in Limbo. We are supposed to have a new Judge appointed in the next week so maybe he or she will be able to make a decision, one way or the other.
Bill- In what sort of condition is the YW physical plant? Good, after the previously mentioned CORP crew work? I certainly hope? Boxcab E50 [ May 18, 2005, 03:45 PM: Message edited by: BoxcabE50 ]
I guess I should of worded that differently, I was wondering about the legal stuff, I had figured that the tracks would need to have some work done. Whats the reason for the new judge? Hope they make a good desicion.
We have 3 Superior Court Judges in Yreka. Two of them recused themselves because of their close relationship with the late Larry Bacon, who was City Attorney and manager of the YWRR. The third was disqualified by the defense because it appeared to them she was going to lean in our favor (I'm guessing that anyway). We were appointed a Judge from the Alturas area, who did not seem to be able to make a decision citing, rightfully, that he had to stay within the guideline(s) of the law. He has recused himself now because he has too much to do in his home court. Right now, it appears they are going to bring a retired Superior Court Judge out of retirement to hear the case. It will take him a couple of weeks to familiarize himself with the tome of paperwork submitted by the attorneys involved in the law suit. I have heard the defense does not want this judge either, but they have already spent their one and only disqualification.
We have several viable buyers for the railroad *if* we can settle the ownership question. But it would be best for the railroad if the City of Yreka would take it over.
Bill- My previous inquiry about current condition of YW's physical plant? After CORP crew work? Boxcab E50
Class One track. Well, at ten mph, if everything consistently stays on rails, all is good. Maybe some day business will boom, and it can be upgraded! Boxcab E50
It would be nice if we could go from 70# rail to at least 100# rail. That would reduce alot of wear and tear on the roadway and ties. But I will not hold my breath for that to happen any time soon!
