Anyone have suggestions on what colors to use for this scheme?

I have the CC collector set of that... I have always loved that paint theme... As far as the actual color names or shades, I am not sure.. But, I know it is an awesome combination.. Dont know exact shades, but it is of course Orange, Yellow, and it took me awhile to ID the other color, but it is something like a dark chocolate brown..

I would look at Santa Fe Red and Yellow and PRR Brunswick Green.

    Hope this helps,

Ya know, I have always looked at that as being a dark brown. But, after some thought, it "could" also be a weird green... It is an odd color, one hard to ID.. :peek:

Unless I've just been blind, I'm pretty sure that the insets are black like the underframe. There is no green in the KCS scheme.

I would suggest asking the question on the KCSNotes Yahoogroup. I think someone over there has a paint diagram that he obtained (legally) from the KCS guys that contains all of the paint information.

    Edit:
Yep, I'm not blind. The problem with "shiny" engines is they throw off the colors in photographs. Also, linked to 2 photos of the new "Belle Hoppers" that have the same colors as the engines -

I'll have to pull out my CC set. Its been awhile since I even looked at it, but, I do remember it being an "odd" shade of black, or a really dark brown, maybe a charcole.. In those last pics posted, it does look more black than I rememver. I remember it being an odd color that was hard for me to distinquish. But I am sure if you are painting that theme, it is a very specific color, and would be very difficult to duplicate on your own..

According to the "Pullman Paint and Lettering Guide" the KCS used a dark green, Swift commercial red and Armour yellow. Quoting, it says "the dark green was dark enough to appear black."

On my CC passenger cars and LL and Atlas locos, it looks to me that they just used black. I have not seen anything about the new KCS equipment on whether they are using the original paint colors. It looks black to me.

I just looked at my CC set, and yes, in some light, it looks black, but not the same black as the undercarraige. In some light, it "might" look a very dark green. In some light, it looks like a dark charchol. Like I said before, it really is a weird color, and hard to come to any conclusion as to what to call it..
