This thread forced me to pick a Pre-Fex, however there is no RGS in the selections I'm unsure why; but, I have become fascinated by the Rio Grande Southern Narrow Gauge. I love the area that this RR operated in, what it did and the towns along it's route that the RR served. It's not much different than the the D&RGW Narrow Gauge lines which I certainly am interested in, also. However the "Rising Sun" logo is certainly one of the best logos there was! Also, I would love to model in Sn3. This scale is for the model builders out there, so that also captures my imagination. Are you interested in the RGS?
I knew a fellow who modeled the D&RGW in Sn3. Beautiful stuff. As have been many others I have seen in photos or YT videos. Alas I have neither teh space or dollars. You might enjoy a peek at this page: https://www.train-orders.com/TOUR/R/RGS/RGS.html
Here is a You Tube video of what I think of as the best Rio Grande Southern Layout that I know of. There is a large group of videos of Mr. Scobie's layout.
I'm building an RGS garden railroad in F scale (1:20.3). I was attracted to it because of the quirky nature of the road, its boom and bust and repeat history. In particular I love the bridges that were built in the Ophir loop on the high line. The loop will form the center of my railway. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
We've all either dreamed of being there and visiting the area, or dreamed of modeling it in one scale or another. Love a good narrow gauge railroad, whether it's model railroading or 1:1!
While not a primary interest, like Russellshilling said, it has a storied history, incredible scenery, outlandish engineering works and that checks all the right boxes for me.
The Rio Grande railroad is a great railroad in general. I love seeing trains passing through the mountains!
Mainly standard gauge myself. But, also find narrow gauge quite interesting, for many of the same reasons given already! Overa period of time, I was able to pull together the entire 12 volume set of books: The RGS Story. Adding narrow gauge, as I find anything of interest.
doing a lot of D&RGW and obviously RGS is heavily linked so have an interest. there is a group of half a dozen in our club. one guy has most of the RGS Geese, or gooses.
