With the recent delivery of Rock Island E6 from PCM/BLI... I began looking for some websites and consists for the Rock Island Golden State and the Rock Island Rocket. I found this interesting video I'd never seen... don't know if its been posted before but here it is: Here's a reference site with really good photos and other info about Rock Island: http://www.rockisl.com/index.htm Our tutorial for posting videos: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine...post-a-YouTube-(or-other)-video-on-TrainBoard
Thanks for the video link. It lead me to another RI one that proved that the Golden State cars were also pulled by E7's as well as E6's. A club member told me it was strictly E6's. Mike
Very interesting content. There is one scene showing an RDC-3 pulling a lightweight coach as a trailer. The Budd Company insisted that the RDC hydraulic transmissions were designed only to power the individual units. It is said that Budd canceled all warranties on units that were known to have pulled un-powered trailing cars. The Rock did some amazing stuff!
The GS was also pulled by E8's in the late 50's up until its discontinuance in 1968. The Bob Chester series showing the vids in Oklahoma is great. Those E3/6's with the new maroon only modified Rocket scheme in 60's were beautiful. I'm so glad BLI put out one of the best looking passenger schemes. It's been a while since it has been in N scale.
This is one of my favorite vids on youtube. Look up the rock pulling Royal American Shows! I remember those days!!!
