I read Rod Stewart's autobiography this week while on vacation. He has an entire chapter, albeit a small one, on his lifelong love of model railroading. He is as proud of his diploma (his word) from the NMRA as a Master model railroader as he is of his CBE from the queen herself. When he hears someone call his trains a "train set" he replies, "You don't get one of those for owning a train set." He names several other model railroaders, too. Frank Sinatra Jr., Roger Daltrey and Jools Holland to name several others. He ends the chapter with: Model railroader, Loud and proud. I've been a fan since high school and I like him even more now. Jim in Boston.

    Good Morning, Frank
Yes, his layout has been featured in MR four times something he is very proud of. By the way, he is also color blind, which makes his skills even more impressive. He has a large collection of rooftop photos that he has taken from various hotel rooms around the world. He uses them for reference when detailing. When he was in Massachusetts a couple of years ago he visited George Selios at FSM. He may have talked him out of retirement. Jim

Surely he doesn't do Z scale. He has to have been before its time.

That would be one impressive z scale layout at 124' long. He models HO. Z has been around since '72. Mr. Stewart was hitting his stride as a performer right around then. He was born in 1945. Jim in Boston

I don't know if Neil Young is a NMRA master modeler, but if you read his bio, he not only runs trains and builds 700 feet of layouts, he designed paddle controllers for his autistic son, which led to his development of the digital train master command control, and his founding Liontech. Instrumental in developing RailSounds II, he then went on to develop environmental lighting for layouts. And when Lionel was doing their version of the Titanic, Neil ponied up his own money with other investment bankers to take Lionel private.

IF there is a Lifetime Achievement award in the NMRA, Neil Young is the supernova among traindoms many stars. Many run model trains, few invent them, or rescue Model Train Companies in distress.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't heard of this. I did know he was a model railroader from way back. I wonder if there are any z scalers among them? The GREAT Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics is a model railroader, too. Jim
