Has anyone built their own switches in O gauge? If so, how did you make the frog and points with tubular rail? How did you get around the middle rail shorting out the train when it touches the outside rail? I was wondering, having tried to build a wye switch many years ago for my Lionel. Greg Elems
I built many O scale switches years ago, using copper-faced ties (pcb). Don't know what you mean by tubular rail, is it tinplate rail? I used code 124, I think from Peco. If the gaps are cut correctly, no shorting problems arise.
Alan, tubular rail is like the old Lionel O27 rail. It isn't solid and has a round head instead of a rail shape. I had some worn out Lionel manual switches and was thinking about making a wye type switch. Now your solid rail you speak of, that sounds interesting. Did you rob sections of track for it or did you get it rail only? Greg Elems
