Adam, I'm sure Rob Kluz will chime in at some point, but I'm about 95% sure that this is the same pre-production sample that you first commented on the White Face (aka uni-brow) on after the first photos came out. I think, again I'm not positive, that the delay in the release from March back to May or June was because of this. I'm pretty sure they are releasing the correct versions. Besides, what's a little paint to you. ;-) Half you guys will repaint these anyway. Randy
What... did someone mention my name? Yes, that is the same preproduction sample. I expect the NS to come in without the white face. I am hoping that we will see these soon! Rob
John, When they actually arrive depends on Ajin. I'm guessing they'll be arriving in June. I just got my March/April ZTrack yesterday and the offiical pre-order from was in it. Randy
Rob (Z-track version) ... is the BNSF SD70 going to be the SD70ACE? i.e. this: or some other variant?
No, the SD70ACe is a very different locomotive from the SD70Ms. AZL does plan on releasing BNSF SD70Ms, but I am not sure what paint scheme(s) they will appear. Since the SD70ACe are so different, these will be a completely new run. AZL has not committed to offering them at this time. Rob Kluz
So when can we expect the SD70's to start shipping Rob? It's summer now, and as things slow down for the off season I find more time for my own modeling projects, and the repainted horse heads are at the top of my list! -Robert
Thats's right Robert. Off with those horseheads. I dont know when I am going to get mine. I am waiting for a BNSF and a CSX. Its vacation time, so I have to show a little more restrain this time of the year. Those credit cards bills have a way of curtailing my spending.
According to the Ztrack site: "The first releases will be SD70M for NS and UP and SD75I for the CNR. In the secound release, AZL will offer SD70M flared for the UP and SD75I for BNSF and CNR." So, will it be red/silver Warbonnet (with BNSF lettering) or Heritage 2? Also notice that they list the CN SD75I twice.
We are talking SD70Ms and SD75Is. The SD70MACs are also a very different locomotive. AZL is planning on concentrating on the SD70Ms, and SD75Is. Yes, AZL did indicate they will be offering BNSF versions. I have no confirmation of the version or the time of the release. Sorry! Rob
Santa Fe - Burlington Northern - BNSF Most Excellent! This means I can concentrate on other Z scale items. Also gives me ample time to save up for the time when AZL does release a BNSF version of the SD70. Gordon, did the SD70 exist before AT&SF and BN merged? and, if so, did AT&SF own any? Was there a version of the SD70 in the red, yellow, and silver Warbonnet paint scheme? If so, Rob, might AZL be producing any of these? Thanks I know, stupid question, but, My mind is lost at this time! Hobo Tim
Tim, ATSF never operated the SD70, but It did have the SD75M in full warbonnet colors. I guess you just have to wait, or strip one those ponies.
AT&SF SD70 series John, When them ponies get here, all them guys who want'em can have'em. I'll wait till the Santa Fe/BNSF motive power gets here. You know, the ones with the real HORSES under the hood! Might as well have a rocket motor in there! lane: :lightning: Hobo Tim
Well, you will be crying when I'm running my BN White Faced SD60M's around and you are still waiting on pumpkins Tim! -Robert
Tim ... I too get confused re: all these variants ... as for ATSF ... here is a good page with their locomotive types: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/modelListRR.aspx?id=ATSF http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/modelListRR.aspx?id=BN http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/modelListRR.aspx?id=BNSF can someone please explain what is different between the SD70M SD70MAC / SD75I / etc ...
Gordon, here is a good thread on the difference between AC and DC versions. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=76328
Here is what I plan on doing to mine: In this shot is the SD70M, and the white faced units are SD60M's, which externally are almost perfectly identical: I'm really ready for mine! -Robert
Robert, what are you going to use to replace the High traction trucks. If the sideframe just pops out like the SD40's, Then all we have to do its make copies of the SD40 trucks, and install it into the SD70, but I fear the trucks its going to be one piece. The second issue I have is the stripping of AZL's. Weather It's the same paint they use on the brass engines. You know how hard it was for Tim to strip the C44. I think I will wait for you to do all the work first.
