Why couldn't you request and get a set of SD40 truck sideframes (or the whole unit) from AZL? Don't they keep spare parts around? Adam
Adam, dont I wish AZl could supply us with parts. Just think about it. They have z scale mu hoses, bells, snowplows, and other detail parts. Rob has very limited supply of them, especially for the brass engines. In fact, Rob doesnt even have any AZL couplers in stock. So the chances of getting the SD40 sideframe from AZL are very slim.
The last status I have heard from AZL is that the SD70s are right around the corner. I expect them any week. As for parts, we will have parts available for the SD70s. This will include complete truck sets. Also, every SD70s will come with an extra coupler and plow for those wanted to convert from truck mounted couplers to body mount. Rob
So why not get one of these guys who can do casting or the folks who do the rapid-prototyping to do up some replacement trucksets? You don't ask... You don't get! Adam
I'm really ready for my SD70's now. I think I am having a bad time waiting for them. Waiting is bad, bad, bad! I got the flyer 2 years ago at the Seattle NTS, and I think it's about time to let us have them now? Let's all converge on Rob's house, and push his car over, then maybe he will give us our SD70's!
Physical threats don't help, Robert. I've tried. :teeth: Unfortunately, Rob is at the mercy of the supplier, just like we are. But the waiting IS painful....... I would love to have mine before our next show in June, at the U.S. Postal Museum in DC, but at the minimum, they ought to be to us before Philly, eh? Eh, Rob?? A shame about the coalporters. Maybe they'll get the NS coalporters to us just in time for the UP SD70 release......hehe
Yeah, if AZL doesn't have the SD70M's from AJIN by NTS, the least they could do would be to laon us some of the production samples to run on the modules. Hint, hint. ;-) Randy
Rob Kluz ... have you had a chance to play with the NS engnes (and UP)? if so ... please give us a report on them thanks G
Yes, I have played with them. All I can say is WOW! They run incredible. I watched them run smooth as silk on Marklin and MTL track. The 195mm curves was fine though with all AZLs, they look and run better on 220mm. The locos are light.. but the traction tires give these locos incredible traction. You just can't stop them! We did not get a change to do a real pulling test, but we put a dozen or so cars behind the loco with no issues. I expect they can pull quite a few more. The other feature you will love is the option plow. Way cool! Also, AZL is planning on offering parts for these locos including complete truck sets. Good things are coming! Rob
Hi all, that's my first post here ! While myself I'm impatiently waiting for my UP SD70, I've also a few questions: -On the opposite of AZL brass diesels, are all the axles powered on these SD70s? -How many traction tires are there on each truck? -Is there an instruction sheet to help setting the snowplow? -And finally, will there be a Southern Pacific sample? Dominique, stinkin' cheese eater from France....
Good news! The SD70s are now here in the US. We should be receiving them early next week. Like the brass, 2 out of the 3 axles in trucks are powered. There is only one set of traction tires on one truck set. The other truck does not have the traction tires. An exploded view diagram, and instructions for adding the plow are included. Also, super detail parts are included. Southern Pacific is possible, though it may be in a much later release. Rob
New arrivals!! Some massive new motive power has arrived: A little closer view of one of the new workhorses: They're so beautiful!! I'm so happy!! Oh, and my Micro-Track test loop is too small. I've tested each individual loco with 40 cars so far(all that will fit!), and they haven't spun the first wheel. These things are beasts! Look out GP35s, there's a new kid in town........:shade: More later, but not tonight.......
They just look very impressive! Thank you for sharing this pictures. I can't wait until I have my UP ones.
I can't wait till I get mine. It looks like they are traveling through Mars right now, but should arrive here this week. -Robert
