I ran out of couple of medications today. They were due here Tuesday morning. Might make it by Saturday... Thankfully, nothing life threatening.

Like it, or not, USPS was well aware and since last Spring, that people had quite significantly increased mail use. They should have had some sort of contingency or crisis plan in place, to cope with potential increases during the Holidays.

You have to put the blame on the federal government since at least 2001. Instead of bailing out banks and car companies they should have been investing in the Postal Service. Thank heavens I did not go the mail route for my meds. The Missus is picking up some refills for me today while She is out.

With the abuse my wife had to deal with while working for the USPS, I doubt they had anything in place other than stronger whips. Her office was a hub for a medium sized city that has a lot of industrial action going on in it. The last year she worked there during the holidays (2018) they increased the volume by 4x and expected the driver's to still make normal volume time. There was no increase in the personnel or longer allowable times. She was even made to come back half way through her route to pick up more packages that hadn't been sorted before she left, and deliver to stops she already had made... and finish on time. She was yelled at and threatened with her job if she didn't finish on time. She quit right before the holiday season 2019 as she was already getting some flak as packages started increasing in the late October, early November timeframe. She quit a week before turkey day and was done with the PO. She is now a much easier person to get along with unless she gets to talking about the PO. I am not joking when I say she has some PTSD issues from working there.

A lot of UPS shipments to residents are last-mile-delivered by local USPS. Sounds like USPS bit off more than they can chew. And of course COVID isn't helping.

The number of Fed-Ex, Amazon, & UPS trucks (multiple trucks from each shipper) on even my quiet residential street every day can't be very efficient.

All that on top of the USPS' appointed rounds once per day.

The other day I stopped to get gas and all ten gas pumps were occupied with Amazon delivery trucks.

Pics or it didn't happen! ;)

No, I believe it. Would've been a great pic to get though. Probably could've gone viral.

Your right it would have made a good photo, didn't think of it at that time. I could probably see it again because Amazon trucks are there every day.

'Blame piss-poor management'? I did...Louis DeJoy (the worst Post Master General EVER) was installed in the USPS with the help of Donald Trump. I stand by my statement.

'government unions'...LOL I wont even go there. The USPS is going down the toilet with the Ty-D-Bol man ! :censored:

Well I just got this from a vendor explaining the delay in shipping.
    Quote
Our sincerest apologies, but it looks like USPS could not handle all the packages ordered online over Thanksgiving this year, and got really backed up around 12/3. Some packages that we shipped on 12/3, 12/4, and 12/7 have been affected.

Your package has been shipped. USPS does have it. They are trying to work in the backup packages every day, and we hope that they will catch up soon. Unfortunately, at this point, that means these packages will probably not arrive by Christmas.

Again, we are sorry about this. In the 25+ years we have been shipping with USPS, this is the first time that we have seen this.

Via our contract with USPS, we have to give them 30 days before we can consider a package as lost. If for some reason your package is lost, you will be refunded for it.

OK, folks. Politics are OT and by rule, a no-go. So let us please desist and just stay with the topic.

    Thank you,

    From your TrainBoard Staff.

Ordered some trains on Dec 3rd, ETA was before the 11th. Tracking says they went to TX, then OK where it has stayed for 11 days. First, why move it from TX to OK when it's going to Calif? Then, just that it hasn't moved for 11 days doesn't sound like it's going to be going anywhere anytime soon :(

As a side note: my father died the beginning of Nov (it's okay, he was old, had cancer, and lived a full life). To get my mothers benefits updated, the Social Security office REQUIRED her to sent the ORIGINAL wedding cert (they were married for 65 years). She sent it USPS 2nd day with tracking and signature required. SS office says they never got it. USPS says it was never scanned anywhere after she gave it to them...they have no idea where it is and didn't even offer to say they were sorry about it...just it looks like it is lost and hopefully it will eventually show up. In the mean time, a 94YO widow isn't getting any money to live on.

They wouldn't accept a certified copy? I had reason several years ago to get some proof to the SS folks, my local office only asked for certified copies. Wow.:cry::cry:

If that's the case, that's where it's likely to stay - Germany went into National Lockdown on the 16th until 10th January, so that's their Christmas and New Year cancelled.

I talked to my friend who works at USPS hub in Tulsa today and he said they only have 250 employees this year to process all packages, they used to have 500 in years past. He also said they don't have anyone sick with Covid. Just poor management that let the employee dwindle to half their numbers. Some of the processing equipment is down because of their extreme usage. I'm sure it's like this around the country.

That sounds worse than it is. Yes, we are encouraged to stay home, work from there if possible, and don't meet other people.

All shops except food stores, pharmacies and the shops akin to drugstores (not really organized as in the US) are closed to the public. So you can buy the everyday products without problems - provided you keep 5 foot distance to others and wear face masks.

The other shops are allowed to provide pickup or delivery services where customers order by phone or via internet. Postal and parcel services are working and have been staffed up more than the previous years. So deliveries are coming with just the typical seasonal delays.

Problems exist though with international deliveries. They usually are sent with regular passenger flights. As thoses are currently very sparse, only a small part of what used to be carried across the Atlantic can be sent at the moment. So parcels at the Frankfurt airport are waiting for a plane, not a customs officer.

As for Christmas or New Year parties - they are dead indeed this year
