Hey yall! So I've come to realize I have a special interest in the caboose! Could y'all post pics of any favorites you have and info on the background behind that particular one? I want to buy one for myself, and the special one I want, I can't find. So I will drool over yours! Thanks y'all and have a pleasant day! Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
My boyfriend and I were camping in Ohio and came across these beauties! I'm in love and want both, but can't find them lol
I'm an N scaler, but I have a few Lionel trains. Here's one I inherited from my late railroader grandfather. He worked PRR, PC, & Conrail.
Owning a real caboose is a lot of $$$. The cost to buy may seem to be not bad. But moving it is a big chunk of dollars. Not to mention having a site at which to place it and restoration....
A buddy of mine here built one as a playhouse for his kids. He had a real 26 foot wood one donated to him, but the city cried about him putting it in his yard, so he donated it to the Terry, MT museum where it sits today. Needless to say, the city really tried to cry about the homemade one, but had no legs to stand on!
That's awesome. We've def talked about cool it is, but I'll settle for an N or O gauge replica lol Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
Don't have an N or O scale caboose, but here are a couple of HO scale cabooses that I build probably 25 years ago and painted for my freelance railroad. The first is a wood kit of a Great Northern caboose. The next is another wood kit of a drovers caboose. I built a couple of these. My two cents. I am a fan of cabooses and can remember riding in them when I was a kit with relatives working on the railroad.
From your initial post it did sound like you wanted a full sized caboose. But now that we understand that your are looking for models in N or O scale it's get's a lot easier. A model close to your B&O transfer caboose has been made in N scale by Buford Shops. I found it listed in the N scale data base. It's just a matter of being patient and looking - ebay, Amazon, shows, etc. until you find something. Another option would be to find something close and then find a custom painter to repaint and decal to match what you want. http://www.trovestar.com/generic/zoom.php?id=132741 This data base will also show if something is available on ebay or Amazon or on it own classified listing. Good luck
Find good prototype photos or plans of the caboose. Using sheet styrene, scale ruler, square and a sharp X-acto knife measure and cut out the parts. Use commercially available trucks and detail parts. That is a very basic overview and internet searches on scratchbuilding will provide you with hours of reading. We all started somewhere.
My boyfriend agreed with you and apparently after I move Easter weekend we are gonna scratchbuild one!! I'm so excited!!!!! Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
