Steel plates: All loads have to be easily removable for realistic operation, so they are not tied down to the car.
A Berwind HM hopper. I made a load by hand carving an extra piece of foam board , applying thick layer of black paint and sprinking cheap "Black Sand" from the floral section of the local Dollar Tree, worked really well and cost pennies.
The "black sand" looks like something worth exploring. I've made loads before using a similar technique but with real coal acquired from a friend some time back. That looks just as good, and probably easier to keep stocked...
I do the same thing, except I use black ballast(O scale). Are your loaded removable? I made mine removable so, I could change out cars from my loaded and unloaded coal trains. JMS
Wow some really good stuff, and so many good ideas too, gonna use some of them. Thanks to all for posting your efforts. Here are a few images of MofW stuff, I built most all of them, painted and decaled, weathered all the cars and equipment.
Very nice set of equipment. And the turnbuckles are excellent - are they scratch or commercial? In either case, it brings back so many (not so) fun memories.
Really enjoying this thread so many really good ideas. Thanks everyone for posting pictures of your modeling skills! Thanks guys I appreciate the comments, and Jim I am willing but, dont think I could write up such a thing. Eagle2 If you google HO scale chains and binders you will find these and many other items. Anyway here is another rather odd load, made out of a PVC 'T" and a few "do-dads" from the parts drawer, also unloadable, so no binders or chains. The observation car has a grill on it made from a plastic wheel removed the flange put a brass fan, screen for the grill, some brass legs. So the next naturally a BBQ ensued. Thanks for looking,
Yes, the best looking loads I have ever seen! Those ought to be in MRR. Thanks very much for showing them!
https://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/214-7254 Now Walthers doesn't have this in stock; but you might be able to find it on line some where. And there's a set available from Stewart Products: https://tomarindustries.com/SP-210.jpg
This is the set I used. However, it now comes with 12 coils instead of six. Jerks. LOL! JMS https://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-1499
W Walthers shows them in stock on their website. I ordered 2 sets yesterday. They were(are) on sale too.
Dale, Paul is linking to a different set of coils... they look metal. The ones my link goes to is the plastic kind that are in stock and on sale. JMS
