Monk - The UTLX tanker carried refrigerated liquid argon. As I understand it, the various boxes on the outside of the car help control temp/vent the inside pressure as the argon slowly changes to a gaseous state. Here's a link to a drawing that labels the various items: http://hoseeker.net/displaycraft/displaycraftutlxtankcarpg4.jpg Here's a link to an explanation of how the tanker works: http://hoseeker.net/displaycraft/displaycraftutlxtankcarpg1.jpg
They are great looking cars and very nicely done. I gotta try one of those kits, I had the website at one time. Where do I go to get a kit like the Argon car you built? Is it resin? Thanks for the info and pictures
Tom - Thanks for the nice words. The argon car model is based on the old Athearn BB 62-ft tanker kit. Other than the tank itself, everything else is mostly scratchbuilt of styrene and brass. The Display Craft wooden kit with white metal castings comes up on that auction site once in a while. I made the decals myself, but commercial decals recently became available. Ran across this link to a website that sells resin, PVC kits for specialty tank cars. http://www.con-sys.com/index.html Has anyone tried any of these kits? Any comments, on the kits?
Slovenia Railways Petrol Tankers. Whole block trains of these run from Koper port, but these are the only two I have acquired so far. SZ freight cars are not very numerous in model form!
Thanks to Jim, posting up my first sale of the Peerless Tank Line decals. Here is my model I use to advertise my decals. It is a LaBelle tank car, highly modified. I still have to weather it...
First new tank car I have done in a while, like cars with more graphics which is why this car was selected. Atlas 23,500 Gal Tank Car, painted with Scalecoat II Black and lettered with Highball Graphics Decals. Rick J
My only other tankcar is this Athearn 40' all stock apart from metal wheels and kd couplers. I have been looking for replacement walkways but to no avail, might have to modify some for another type of car. Sent from my Xperia Z using Tapatalk 2
Just to break up this line up of American cars, here is another of my Slovenian Railways ones This is a Sž Zaes-z - by Roco
No one ever replied as to whether they had bought or built one of these kits?? I'm a real fan of those liquid air cars, and 'assemblied' some information and photos over here. This fellow Bobby Pitts did a really nice job on some custom models. http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/...o-car-painted-and-decaled&p=278044#post278044
This tank car and business is a gag on a friend, Junior Tschache (pronounced shockey) who's family was in to oil business.
Been busy working on tank cars. Here is another release from YesteRRails LLC, my company, working together with Silver Crash Car works on the artwork, for the Rocky Mountain Oil Company Tank Line, circa 1894. I have so many more tank cars to build. Presently working on a four car set for Standard Oil/Union Tank Line in that bright Socony Red scheme. Also to come: Florence Pipe & Tank Line Co., Morrell Tank Line, THE TEXAS COMPANY, and a few others.
