Kato has released a bunch of Amtrak P42 Genesis locomotives over the years.

Now with the 50th Anniversary they are releasing Anniversary schemes on preexisting road numbers.

For example, 46 is a number in that situation. I have the original 46, does it make sense to get the Anniversary version of locomotive 46?

It has not been released yet so I was just curious what other people thought......

    Yes or No?

If the prototype has the Anniversary scheme...sure why not. If it is just a Kato 'dream scheme'...maybe not.

    **EDIT **

    I just found this

    Knowing you David...DO IT...;)

Don't you have enough troubles without buying Anthrax?

If you stick to an era, then buy the one that fits.
If you are collecting and run anything, buy it!

Any P42 is going to look silly on my current 70s'era mini layout. But I've always thought it would be cool to own multiple models depicting the same prototype at different points in time. Although if Doc Brown is right I absolutely cannot MU them together in a consist!

I don't model that time period so I didn't get them the first time and I won't the second time, but unless they have run EVERY number that was built, I don't understand why they would be rerunning numbers, even if it was for an anniversary. Run the engine, but change the number...but, once again, I don't really have a horse in this race.

My answer was NO because I tend to avoid expanding my already wide choice of modeling era of 1930ish to 1970ish.
There's a lot of stuff in that 40 year span.

I decided I wanted to support the 1980's era tunnel motor project from $#@#%<$ who we are now deriding on that other thread. Sadly reality can hurt financially and emotionally.

I'm gonna be quiet. I model between 1935-1955. So what did I do? Ordered a BNSF caboose because it looked good, then bought a Kato B23-7 in BNSF colors to go along with it. I need a keeper...

    That's the spirit!!!

You don't need a keeper. Maybe a wealthy benefactor, but not a keeper.

If you build it they will come…sorry, wrong movie I meant if you like it and have the money, buy it all. Plus if you have them all we can ask you about them. Think of it more as a service to us

I looked at possibly getting the Kato P42 in the original paint scheme (the pointless arrow).

I just could not justify having the model as a 'time-warped' locomotive in my collection. Too many other goodies to invest my limited funds.

Shouldn't this be called "Arrow in the Back" :) Isn't that an Arrow, that I am pointing at with Arrows? Or is this the wrong scheme, livery, paint...?

The Seaboard Coast Line and Santa Fe certainly thought so, when this government "service" discontinued all the unpopular trains the government wouldn't let the roads themselves discontinue.

It only makes sense to have a running mate with the caboose.

    It depends on your perspective.
You are pointing to the fins on the back of the arrow... but the arrow has no point.
    Hence... a pointless arrow .

I have decided to get the locomotive regardless of the duplication.
