So I’m in southern Illinois this week helping my Brother in-law with planting season and it’s lunchtime, I’m setting in the truck and open a Snapple tea and I always look at the inside of the cap for my daily Snapple Fun Fact. Today’s, #906 says that “rubber bands last longer when refrigerated”, who knew? So that’s got me thinking about traction tires, aren’t they also made of rubber? Never thought about them having a shelf life but I have some spares on had if needed. Maybe I need to put them in the fridge, second shelf right behind the jar of pickles. Just some advice that you might find helpful so I thought I would pass it along. Ralph
Update! It’s actually Snapple “real fact” #906. My apologies to Snapple and anyone else who may have been confused by my thread title. Ralph
Oh ....... great ....... I'll need a sand timer to measure the tire life on my GS4. ...... greetings from Australia...
Synthetic/natural doesn’t matter. It’s still going to be a polymer, and the cross-linking of the polymer chains will continue at room temperature for years. This means they will harden up and become less elastic over time. Refrigeration would slow down the cross-linking process, and increase shelf life.
