    Hi Everyone,

I have recently moved to Houston, and, after a hiatus of several years, my wife wants me to build a small simple garden layout (G scale) to accent her new in-ground spa and its associated landscaping. As it has been a few years, I have a few questions I hope folks can help answer.

    1) What type of rock do people prefer for ballast in a garden layout, and can someone suggest where I might obtain this in the Houston area (Kingwood).

    2) Another possible debate question - LGB versus Aristocraft track for an outdoor layout in Houston.

    3) What is the best method for attaching electric feeder lines to the rails?

    4) What is the best way to connect sections of rail to assure long term good electrical continuity?

    5) What is a good way to provide a weather resistant connection between the control panel/power supply and the tracks, assuming that the control panel will be disconnected between operating sessions and stored indoors.

I suspect I will have other questions as I give this a little more thought over the next couple of weeks. I hope to do the construction over Thanksgiving and Christmas, when I will have some long weekends free. I did cheat by having the spa company build a large bed for the layout, so I only need to address roadbed and track construction. I appreciate your help.

I want to thank you both for the helpful responses. They have given me some good insight and ideas to apply. Now, if I can find a little time this weekend to start some planning.....
