Can anyone tell me what the difference is - or is there any difference - other than Couplers of the AZL and MARKLIN EMD E8A Southern Pacific Daylight engine.

    Thanks.

From photos, it looks like the Marklin E8s do not have dynamic brake fans and the AZL units do have dynamic brake fans. It was mistakenly left off the Marklin units, but looks like it was fixed for the AZL batch. I thought I remember reading that they had different fuel tanks, but I cant seem to find any reference to that anywhere.

Just for the record: they are both E9, Curn is right, Marklin's version is incorrect.

Found some more quotes from AZL on their forum.
    From Rob A,

"Marklin gets unique road numbers for their products.

Marklin units also have a special truck to accommodate the Marklin coupler. The coupler pocket we use for the AZL AutoLatch coupler would not work for the Marklin coupler piece. NOTE: if you prefer MTL couplers, it *might* be easier to buy the Marklin locomotive because the coupler pocket will work better with MTL replacement couplers.

The Marklin units also get a special fuel tank that is designed to activate the Marklin action tracks (small switches in the middle of the track). There will be no noticeable difference in the fuel tanks unless you turn the locomotive upside down."

That's why I have both. An early runner, a coupler conversion and hopefully a few more that I can chop up shells for B units.
