Hi all. A few days ago, I saw a CSX unit with "spirit of Nashville" on the nose. I haven't noticed that before, and was wondering what that was all about. The unit was a modern EMD, I believe. I spotted it at the Frankfort Ave. crossing in Louisville, KY. Anything you all can tell me would be appreciated.
Spirit of Nashville is #789, an SD70MAC. There are also the engines for West Virginia, Clinchfield, Brunswick, Dante, Magnolia, Grafton, Waycross, Maryland, Cumberland, Mulberry, Tampa, and Miami.
Did CSX do a "Spirit of New York"(I heard that they did.Don't know it that's true)?.We can't forget the one that NS did-Spirit of Conrail....
I saw an old GP or SD40-2 labeled "Spirit of Bush"... looked like some home shop job, and some folks even accused me of photoshopping the lettering on the photo!
#500 Spirit of Grafton was torn up pretty bad in a derailment several weeks ago, the entire engine block ripped from the frame, the Body and frame work is being completed in Huntington, will be sent to Waycross for the internal work.
Sounds like the 500 took a pretty bad dive. These "Spirit of" units are pretty neat. Just don't see much of them around Atlanta though.
