Can anyone point me in the direction of how to start and build a website? I have absolutely no idea of what to do. I'm looking for something real basic and cheap, but where the user won't be clobbered with pop-up ads. Thanks! Russ
What I did, was talk to trusted friends- Who were in the business, or had done their own. From them, got ideas about hosting companies. (Many hosts offer free software for your use in designing as part of their package.) Then I searched up sites about HTML. And downloaded some free software. It's not that hard. Just practice a bit, and you'll quickly pick it up. My key would be to say start simple. Then add frills as you learn. Boxcab E50
Like Ken said, talk to some people who have already made their own, and you can find some very useful tutorials on the net on html, which is one of the easiest codes to write that I have ever used. Dr. Joe Burns has some excellent stuff on html. Take a look at mine, all written by me (with Dr. Joe's help). :tb-biggrin:
Yes, but I'm not sure I can use it for a small business. It seems like it's for personal stuff, reading through the features. Russ
Russ, I went looking about a year ago for web space, and from a recommendation by a friend, I chose www.1and1.com for mine (owensvalleysub.com) They are always having introductory rates, so I went with the basic one they offer. I got the domain name and the web space for $16 for the entire first year, and now I only pay $25 for a year, including domain name. Even though I got the smallest web space offer, I still never get close to using up all the space I pay for, even with a ton of pictures on my site. They also give you a website building program, but since I had access to a copy of Adobe's Dreamweaver, I use that instead. There are other sites out there that are free, one good one is https://www.blogger.com/start. 2 of TB's members use this and I know they are both happy with it. I guess it all comes down to how you want to use your space. -Mike
