As a kid our family lived in Bethel Park - with our ancestral home being in Baltimore. We would ride the B&O from Pittsburgh to Baltimore and return 3 or 4 times a year from 1952 to 1955 when we got transferred to Baltimore. Riding along the Mon after dark with all the mills along the river between Pittsburgh and McKeesport was a light show that put all of todays laser light shows to shame. Glad I got to witness it when Pittsburgh was the steel capital of the USA.
Considering how LED's and various Laser's have come onto the market in recent years - If one did model a steel mill, I believe it would be possible in many respects to recreate the light shows I saw as a kid. It would probably involve someone to be competent in miniature lighting as well as compiling a computer program/application to run the light show.
