Just saw one online built out of medium'
Curious to see some pictures of others
My initial thought is I am going to built it up on a thisn strip of styren and probable use straight elmers glue

It is doable but you will need sides to your styrene because even thick it will flow. I would also wet the stone with an alcohol water mix so the Elmers will flow well through the stone. And you may want to dilute the Elmers with water some for the pour. Two types of stone walls. Those that are fitted without mortar and those that are fitted with mortar. For the latter I would use a very thin slurry of plaster to simulate the mortar and I do mean very thin since you want the stone to show through.

I like Mr. Moore's very thoughtful answer. On a side note, I once did some very low bridge piers that were carved and painted blue foam (expanded polystyrene?). Good luck with the wall.

Stone wall fences abound here in Virginia and are usually made with no mortar just stone stacked on stone and sometimes with a rounded cap of mortar on top. Wood gates are used with them and occasionally a set of steps is built over them. I would construct a form that can be easily un-molded from the set stone and possibly re-used. Average height is around 3 to 4 feet. Most of them date back over a hundred years old and have sections that are falling apart.

Out on the farm they were just stacked without mortar. Of course we had to pick them up first.

If you can do it, it will be a nice point of interest on the layout. The big problem, especially in N scale, is stone walls are usually built with rocks that a man can move/carry.

I would think about using a mix of Arizona Stone rather than the Woodlands stuff. Arizona Stone is made from real stone and is more to scale. Using a mix of their HO and N scale ballast would be more to scale and look better.

I've been a O scaler for a long time and did a lot of plastruc scrartchbuilding and making of scenery like mountains and rock hills with various size tallus
This is actually my wife's layout,I do the logistics and scenery building, which to me is the most enjoyable part of it,not just running a train in a circle
With that said, I really enjoy everyone's input of ideas,
I've never been much of a creator of ideas or vision of making stuff, but have gotten pretty good at duplicating what I can already see.
And you have all given some good ideas to expand on when I start this.

My initial idea is a short run of maybe 6 inches to start with to see how it comes out. set on a very thin piece of not wide plastruc sheet ,build up the wall stones dipping it in straight elmers glue using my hobby tweezers, I'll do about 3 rows up and let it sit for a day or so and see how I like it
I'm not Mr scale or Mr exact so if if it looks good from a few feet away on the layout I'll proceed or knock it apart and the tallus will get used somewhere between both of my layouts
