Stony Smith has done it again! He took his Bucyrus WB150 Crane http://www.shapeways.com/model/475695/bucyrus-wb150b-railroad-crane-z-scale.html and made modifications to turn it into a Brownhoist Derrick (crane) www.shapeways.com/model/511354/brownhoist-mow-crane-zscale.html He is definitely the Shapeways Master!!! Thank you Stony! John Bartolotto
And less than a week too late. I ordered a few more of the Bucyrus planning on converting a couple to brownhoist. Oh well, looks like I'll be making another order. Thanks for the info. Dan S.
Dan, Put the cab and arm of the Bucyrus on top of an NSM flat top deck scow and make it a dredger or wrecker boat. John
Actually, I did that about 12 years ago with the works and boom from an N Scal 120 ton wreck crane kit. I also used the arm from a small N scale steam shovel to make a New York State dipper dredge. I do plan on buying a few of the NSM flat top barges, though. I want to make a dormatory/bunk house barge and a derrick boat. Someday, I also want to make a NYS tug tender and some buoy boats. The tug tenders are actually just small tugs, but they were the most common work boats on the canal. I have drawings for tug tender, but have never actually gotten around to making one. http://www.tug44.org/canal.corp.boats/ Dan S.
Dan, I think that you could get pretty close to a tug tender with modifing either MTL #799 43 929 Fishing Boat http://www.zscalemonster.com/mt/load/799-43-929.jpg or #799 43 933 30' Boat http://www.zscalemonster.com/mt/load/799-43-933.jpg John
