OK what are these cylindrical hoppers doing in this wood pulp loading yard? This photo taken at Hearst Ontario by my daughter who accompanies her husband truck driver. She keeps a watch for railroads wherever they go and takes pictures for me.
These cars may not be "in" the pulp yard. The main lines run very close to the south side of an extensive pulp operation and from Hwy 11 they may look as if they're inside. I have also seen bad order cars stored in the pulp yards from time to time. But that was many years ago. Nice picture though.
Notice they are all CN cars. Not the usual mix of SK, Ab and GofC cars you see when they're at work. Suggest they are probably stored serviceable. Any out of the way place will do as long as there is little chance of vandalism and they can be moved away quickly. Love the picture though. I remember that sky - and the cold.
Doesn't CN interchange with Ontario Northland at Hearst.I was there in the fall and noticed the hoppers and thought they were for interchange.
