I just want to mention a couple things. If you are building your own SW1500 and you use fiber optic strands for the lights, don't use CA glue (super glue) to secure it. The .5 mm strands will melt! My first couple of SW1500's had no problem just by dumb luck. My third model had melted strands. Use regular old white glue like Elmer's or a two part epoxy. The SW1500 Shell instructions at thezmaker.com have been updated with this information.

    Thanks

Use Microscale kristalclear. With that stuf you can always get the fibers out again if needed. /Frank

Works great for making small windows too. I use it on all my old M-T F7's and small automobiles, etc.(y)

I've heard of this technique. I didn't know it could be done with Kristal Clear. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, just apply a glob on the end of a toothpick, and go around the edges of the opening until it forms a "window", and let dry.
You can see some of my F-units in my album of photos on here, works pretty good.(y)

This is my first SW1500. It's the basic version. My next one will be the advanced version

I'm a little embarrassed to have to ask, I am new to trains, but you know there is no such thing as a dumb question... How do I buy one of these? I looked at the Shapeways site, I see both 3D printed and brass bodies on this thread, I have a Rokuhan Shorty and I know what that is, I see a few options and decal sets, but I am not sure where to begin.
Lets say I want to make a brass SW1500 in CSX livery, what do I buy? I'm only up to DC so far but hope to DCC in the near future. I am currently using AZL couplers for my American trains and Marklin couplers for my Euro trains. So I would like to use AZL style for this project.

After the announcement of AZL, do you continue?
At least with the brass models?
    Best,

With the exception of some decal sets, I have been done with my SW1500 line of products for some time. If the parts continue to sell on Shapeways, I will continue to support the buyers with instructions and answer any questions they may have. Below is a picture of my last SW1500 that I don't plan to keep for myself. I am putting all my effort into supporting the SW1200 line of products until that one becomes defunct, too. I am also still working on the S2 model as well. I figure I have a couple more years before everything I have worked on is mass produced by Big Z. Until that time, I will keep on keeping on.

I touched up the paint and added some weathering to the trucks and pilots.
