Haven't done a lot on the layout during the last few months, but the tower has been finished and has two operators. I bought 50 cheap figures for just € 5,00 and they look surprisingly good. Not the level of details that Preiser offers, but they serve well as tower operators and people inside shops. One of the shops has been turned into a Radio Shack. Half a year ago, I bought a new grassmaster. My expensive Faller grassmaster didn't work anymore (after just a few times of using the thing...), so this time I bought a cheap model, made by a hobbyist who sells them at shows. I hadn't try this new grassmater yet, so using it on my Z scale layout was it's first appearence. And it worked quite well! I also started with a new shop. This one will be one story higher than the others. Sorry for the inconvience of this picture-on-its-side..... The original picture is OK, but the upload somehow messed it up...... Here are all the shops that I have built so far:
Great lookin' buildings AND layout!! Reminds me of the Milwaukee Road in Montana! Got more pics of it?
A little bit of progress (and some pictures ;-) I am playing with the grassmaster and the results are pretty good. However, I've found out that a simple plastic bottle with a hole in the thingy on top (what is the English word????) works quite well too. I have also added a small retaining wall around the parking lot. The fence is, I think, from Atlas. The trees are Heki, originally for N scale but I think that they are OK for Z scale. Most of the times, modeltrees are far too small. N scale trees look a lot better for Z. I have also made some trees by myself, but they are so fragile that I prefer commercial trees. However, I've put some Woodland Scenic stuff on them, because the trees look too shiny otherwise.
Took some pictures for my website. Progress is going slowly, but I see that the layout is turning out fine. Two big challenges: adding trees, and finding cars,
Well, it's not very cold around here. Winter hasn't shown up yet. The tulips are starting to pop up in our garden.......
You must be someplace where the world is turned upside down...grin! That or those living on my end of the world are. Enjoy your spring time.
We will not see any tulips where I reside, for many months to come. We have only seen temperatures above freezing a couple of times since mid-November.
OK, no progress, but I have put some cars on the layout (they were standing in the way of another project) and took some pictures. On the left some of my Märklin cars, on the right some MTL cars, and in the back two hoppers that the German trader Marsilius sold under his own brand name.
