Now I know who this is Dude give me a call not sure if you changed your number??? I remember this as if it was yesterday  The best day of my life....... - TrainBoard.com
Now a quick update on the layout...... I got a snow shed from John that I am trying to work in the layout and I made some new resin portals, cork is down getting ready to lay track next
Let everybody know what the "cork" means in ZoCal circles. It's a rubberized self adhesive cork product from McMaster Carr, comes in rolls. The ZoCal default is 1/8" thick, 1" wide , cut to 18" long pieces, then beveled with the help of a home made beveling device. This material is so flexible, absolutely no notches needed for even the tightest radiuses. The first modules we used this tipe of road bed for were built five years ago, and abused since. There is absolutely no indication it will ever fail. This road bed material is one of the many "secrets" of good track work and smooth running trains.
We had some good times...glad you remember....you should come try to do that again, never know what might happen... wink wink..
Just for you Lindley.......... here is a shed from John Cubbin I added the back wall trying to get a more modern look. At first I wanted to build one but then liked the open look that John sheds give  I also made some resin portals that came out ok for my first try working with resin and make molds
Great job, Mike! John, we have here in Melbourne some entrances to tunnels or underpasses that have a snow shed style structure like above. And we have no snow here for sure.
Mike, You may want to raise the shed up with cork - you are losing some height there. Would look better with more headroom anyway.
Dave, do you mean Mike's shed would need to be taller? Indeed it already seems oversized in my opinion. These last days I was watching a video about Donner Pass, actually taken from the front platform of an UP SD60, and snowsheds like those remaining in Emigrant Gap give the feeling just to match train's gauge. Just keeping in mind that most structures - portals, sheds, loading platforms, etc. - don't allow for the height of the cork raising the rail height. Then you can get into issues with the height of engines and especially autoracks. Just saying....
Example: The side of the shed is even with the road bed. Sometimes you want to make a structure to appear larger/bigger. I see a lot of clearance above the engine in the picture. Mike, Put down some track and put an engine on it under the shed. Try to match the picture. Usually in wet conditions, you want drainage on a concrete structure. Rebar does not do well if left submerged. So raise the shed.
