One tip is always test your builds with the longest and tallest cars that you plan to operate. If you plan to run double stacks, then keep a couple on hand to verify you clearances. The longest cars (such as 89' passenger cars) will give you a good indication where you will have clearance issues on radius and such.

Also, keep in mind your future plans. While you stunning collection of 40' boxcars are what you are running now, what happens when you go to 50'? Think long term in your planning.

On another note, I love the shed! John did an incredible job on it. I can't wait to see your scene develop around it.

    Thanks for the input Guyz.....
    David,
Next Friday for setup in Ontario let me bring a Autorack home so I can check to see if it will clear the shed then I will have a better idea on what I need to do
Here is a 60' high cube just to get a idea on the height of the shed now

    Yes He did
I love the open look about it I wanted to do a double track thru it but just couldn't get it to work and I didn't want to change my track plan Svein spent to much time on it to try and change it.
Now let's talk Autoracks any idea on the road names coming this Summer??

    Mike,
I measured an autorack at 1 1/8" high from the top of the rails. And sure you can borrow an autorack to measure with.

A double-stack intermodal car with full load is taller than an autorack.

Eddie I love the lead unit in the 2nd photo. You can almost see the yellow underneath the soot. Nice...

Now who would have the heart to do that to one of AZL's flag SD70s...

One of my UP SD70M is almost that bad. Plus it has the burnt flag we are starting to see alot of on the real units.

By the way guys, did you notice the photographer who took those RailPicture photos?
    Yup, it's Eddie.
So Eddie, you're going to have to make another trip down to Donner Pass to see them Double Stacks first hand.
Maybe during the NTS in Sacramento?

Mike, it's the video on the link below:

    http://www.trainvideodepot.com/DVD-A-Cab-Ride-Over-Donner-Pass-4-Hours-by-Donner-Rails_DR-CABDR

However I just realize my comment about your snowshed is irrelevant as the figure with a high cube boxcar in the shed's entrance shows that your gauge is good. Congratulations for the nice work, I'm looking forward to seeing the progress of your work.:tb-wink::thumbs_up:

Just under 1 1/4". So if you make it 1 1/4" or more, you are fine.

Hey sorry about that. when I was up there a year ago (2010) every train was single stacks. I guess I figured they were still just running that way.

If I should say something, I would have put some corc under the snowsched so it will have the same height as the track. I think the propotions looks better then. Also compared to the diorama on Jürgs site, it looks more like it is higher, like this image taken from his site:
