Now for new fun. The place i wanted to put the fuel station is almost to small for that station to fit. I am running out of yard space. Two shots of the fuel station where i planed to place it. One shot of the rest of the yard, Any ideas?

I think the location in the first shot is fine.

Moving that switch to that short spur back to the left...even an inch...toward that white building...would give you the room to 'swing' that spur out further so that tank will fit in between it and the yard track. Even a quarter of an inch more between the tracks would make it fit. JMO:coffee:

It doesn't show but the legs are on one rail of that spur and the other legs are on one rail for the other track. Let me take another shot on the end of it to let you see what i was saying. One thing i was thinking of is maybe moving the hotel more towards the spur, maybe 2 1/2" at most. Then the same with the little red light hotel (lime colored house). Maybe would give me more room for the fuel depot. One thing bad about that is i would need to buy another right hand switch. They are hard to find. Left hand ones were easy and that is what i bought for the spur where the fuel island was planed. I might leave the spur out of the equation all together. Will look this one over for a bit.

Well, I am backing up a few moves. I did grasses on the track areas and got some of it in the turnouts. I tried Vacuum cleaner and nothing. It don't want to switch or don't switch all the way. Trains jumping off the turnouts. End job is tearing out the turnouts in the yard. What a mess. I am almost sick as that part of the layout was pretty much done. So much for done. It looks like a tornado hit the layout. On top of this, I am looking at tearing out the layout and packing it up in my crates for travel. Deb is wanting to move back to Maine. That said, it could mean i need to tear it all down. Now i have no idea how much room i will have to build another layout. I have a 3X8 and have been thinking of expanding it to 3x10 to make it look better. Now i don't know if i can have a 3X8... Shots of the tornado...

Have about half of the turnouts cleaned up and i can get the brush and water treatment started. I was just there when?? back to this again. Made me mad that the painters tape didn't keep the sawdust (or whatever it is made of) out of the little holes that the external switch lever is. End result is 11 turnouts will have to be cleaned up before i can put it all back together. I am going to continue for now with this layout. If Deb does find out and move i can tear it down then. Personally, i love Maine but this will be a bad time. Kinda like what Mike Fifer is doing. We both seem to get to a point and then change things. Guess we will see how this goes. I am thinking of going on and adding the 2 extra feet of board. If i do have to tear it down, i am thinking of making it a module. 3 pieces. two 4 foot and a 2 foot piece. Three modules should do that and is easy for transplant. Any way i look at it this will be layout #7:eek::sick:

Well, It took 3 soaks to get all the stuff off the turnout and the insides as well. Remember that 11 of the turnouts, only one is new. The rest of them have been on 5 other layouts. Some are almost 8 years old. The insides are the same and look to be in good shape. The shot of the turnout taken apart, you can see i have already put powdered graphite on the two spots that get things inside that screw the turnout up. I already tested the turnout controller and it works perfect. now 10 more...

I have all but 2 left that will not work no matter what i try. So..i guess will have to buy two more and replace them. They are right hand turnouts. Sucks

No, i use the electric. I can do both in the front yard but i guess i am lazy. The way they were it wouldn't work right whichever way i did it. The inside was "stuck" in one spot. I would play with them and they had a mind of there own, Anyway they are fixed or replaced. What i did was look to see if i had anymore #4 rh. No but i saw two #6 that were old but they still worked. I decided to cut them down some to fit in the place of the #4's. They will work! I have a couple of shots below. Can't believe they use plastic to make the throw. Cut that back and they are within a 1/2" of being a perfect fit. I can fudge them into place.

ok, i showed the finished,(i thought), I thought i would do a before after. I haven't put down the track yet. So its isn't put all the way yet. I did like i said i would. I did the scenery between tracks or next to in places. Mixes of Brown earth with grass and burnt grass and some shrubs done. Need to add more of them to the layout yet. I am gong to show the before with all of it tore apart. Late i will show how it looks after. I have all the turnouts done so with the grasses glued down really good. Things should go together pretty good. It looks like Godzilla made a visit to this layout.
