On Turner Classic Movies right now. Whole thing takes place on a Chicago-Los Angeles train. Steam engine I didn't recognize. Pretty good train shots. Time is about 1951, I think. Maybe that is when it was made. [edit] Espee Daylight. Some type of GS. "Southern Pacific" was removed from the tender. [ November 12, 2005, 08:10 AM: Message edited by: sapacif ]

Hmmm. Right now, I'm not recognizing those names. Only a few seconds actually on a train? Bummer! Anyone ever seen the original movie named "Silver Streak?" (Predates the Gene Wilder/Richard Pryor/Jill Clayburgh flick of same title, by several decades.) Boxcab E50
Sounds like a good flick... Ken, nope, only seen the remake... Another cheesy train movie: Runaway Train (2 escaped cons jump a train, whose hogger dies of a heart attack, running away into the Alaska wilderness minus crew.... Yet another cheesier movie: Atomic Train--some illegal nuclear weapon movement finds its way onto a Denver-bound train, thru the mountains. (funny, none of the scenery looks like the Moffat Route it is portraying) Said train loses brakes somehow, and becomes a runaway, headed to the Mile High city. Train derails, and all heck breaks loose. Very long, tho. I lost interest about 2 hours into it... The engines seem to be former BC Rail, with wide cabs... Kinda far from home rails! Under Siege 2, Dark Territory was partly filmed on Tennessee Pass....

I didn't recognize any names, either. Good black and white film noir type movie. The whole movie takes place on a train. The rr car interiors were done in a film studio, I would think, so no filming done at trackside except at the station. There are some pictures of heavyweight pax cars at the beginning when they are boarding the train, but I couldn't make out any rr names. Lots of pictures of engine drivers and other canned stuff as the train progresses across country. BTW, the good guys win.
I've seen this one a couple of times. Always wonder what other footage of RR scenes they didn't use. Probably some neat stuff! Boxcab E50
