Thanks everybody.. I appreciate the dialog and comments. I was under the impression they ended up on CSX. But prolly wrong about that, I wrong about everything nowdays (just ask wife). The A/C light package and other amenities did seem to target SP. But SP being broke, decided to opt out of the angle nose and light packages, settling on the basic Geep 60. However they ended up in service, they were great locomotives. And were perfectly in scale for their application.

Now that you mention that I do think CSX did get them.

So hard to keep track of stuff anymore as things change so fast.

The GP60 demo's were purchased by NS. the fancy light package was removed and they were numbered just behind the GP49's in the 4600 series. Can't remember for sure if they were 4606 to 4608 or 4607 to 4609. They are followed immediately on the NS roster with the GP60's built for NS.

I haven't posted to this thread for a while, need to pay a little more attention to it.
I, like many others, appreciate the older Blue box type kits. Been working on these Athearn 55' covered hoppers a couple months off and on.
And as usual, I ended up doing waaay to much to them. When will I ever learn? I looked at the end details and thought hhmm, maybe an air tank here, a triple valve there, and now some piping, well we cant have the bulky walkway, so got a couple etched kits from Plano, then wow those end grabs sure look clunky after all the other details, then snip and sanded all of them off, then I couldn't find the correct straight grabs (why, why did I start this).
Well after drilling 130, #79 holes on each car, for all the walkway mounts and grab irons, I hand bent the straight grab irons, mounted them and the rest along with the walkway mounts with ACC. Then painted and decaled with Herald King decals. I have not worked very much with those decals, I found them to be robust and just a little thicker than what I was used to, but good decals. I then mixed up some epoxy to glue the walkways, then installed Plano cut bars, Walthers trucks and Reboxx wheels finished the basic models. I am gonna run them a while before I give them a dose of light weathering. Any ways a few images of the Arco hoppers.

    Hi Tom,

We are fine here and staying busy. It’s finally cooled down some. I’m working on several projects for the club rr and the Port layout. I am considering a trip on Amtrak next summer to the west coast. I’ve got the boss talked into it Right now and have been studying the routes. I want to do a round robin out on the Southwest Chief and come back on the California Zeypher, I just have to figure out how to make the connections work. I think I would enjoys the trip very much. I have spent years traveling on planes and cross country by vehicle but have always been in a hurry so the pace will be a nice change. I’ll have a chance to see the western landscape in a great way. I just hope Amtrak doesn’t make anymore schedule changes before I get the chance to go.

I hope you are doing well and staying healthy! You guys have probably seen snow by now up there. I hope you enjoy warmer weather for a while longer.

    Take care buddy!

5 SD40-2's on an eastbound load. Tried with 4 units first but the train stalled.

Anyone for an 8 mph climb up a hill? Dispatcher doesn’t make the call on power. That’s the corridor manager.
