The upcoming Thomas the Tank Engine movie looks like it should be great for the kids - maybe even an introduction to railroading. I know my oldest - now 12 - used to watch all the Shining Time Station shows and the Thomas videos. My youngest - now 5 - has picked up on the videos and has a great deal of fun with her Brio (and lookalike) trains, setting up her own little layouts and so on. This would be a great opporunity to expose more youngsters to trains, as well as being a super family movie. ------------------ Jenks - the REAL Big Blue
i hope this movie has the proper english voices of the origonal tv shows ------------------ Matthew wheres all the C636's???? stickymonk.com Matts Photo gallery
My #1 son (Sticky monk's brother), was weaned on Thomas the Tank Engine! He soon knew by heart, all the words to go with the pictures, so we could not skip any when reading them to him We have almost all the original books, about 25 years old! Plus a couple of records, with the original narrator, Johnny Morris. All this was wasted on Gary, as he is not the slightest bit interested in trains, now I hate to think what you Americans have done to these stories ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery [This message has been edited by Alan (edited 21 July 2000).]
Watch it Alan! I'll get "Duck" to get you! I'm a BIG TTTE FAN and I'm 36! Although I never heard Johhny Norris tell the tales, I'm sure it's the same stories. While we're at it...Everyone, who is your favorite story teller? Johhny Norris, Ringo Starr or George Carlin? Like I said, I've never heard Norris so my vote goes to my favorite of the Fab-Four...Ringo Starr! ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX! Brent Tidaback, Member #234 and a N-Scaler to boot!
Well, first let me say that I like all of the narrators, but am partial to Carlin! My youngest son (now 3), and current fireman on the Colorado and Southwestern (our HO layout), loves Thomas and his pals and when the commercial was first aired he went APE This will be his first movie theatre experience, so I hope it will be worth while. Happy Modeling!!, John To see our CSW layout, go to: http://jstrainstation.homestead.com Don't forget to sign the guest book!!
maxwell plant is schemer's brother!!!!!!!!!!!carlin was the best and i now have thomas to run on the ntrak layout so all the little rugrats can enjoy it! just kidding. plant better watch it or i'll get diesel or cranky crane to put him in his place. ------------------ Norfolk Southern The Pack Mule of Transportation Mo-Pac RULES Heritage N-Scale Group, Joliet, Il.
Never heard of Carlin, but Johnny Morris was great with different voices for all the locomotives, etc He was the original, but Ringo was ok. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery
Alan, come out from under your rock! GEORGE CARLIN the comedian!?! You never heard of him? Oh well, I guess we're even, I never heard of Johnny Norris... And I'm NOT Schemers Brother, I'm Stacy's Cousin! Hey 'Bacon, I can't wait to see your N-Scale Thomas. Do you have Annie and Claribell too? ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX! Hmm, I should see this on cheap Tuesady I was intending to go, although it didn't look like it was heavy on plot. I was raised with a pull train, and then at 7 months I started with Brio. I think I was one of the few children on the block with a point to point system, and a 'proper' yard so my trains could be sorted, heck, I had an intermodal yard! Oh, those days were cool, I left Brio when I was about 6 for a shiny, POS Model Power Train set that I have now sold off. Happy Railroading!! Dane N. BTW-Alan, I am pretty sure that us 'Americans' (I use the term lightly) haven't changed the stories well, other than a few things like the plot ------------------ BC Rail King BCRailKing@Canada.com InternationalRegion@tamr.org for TAMR info. Brent, we don't get to see/hear many American 'comedians' over here, not really our style of comedy! (Except for some sit-coms), which I will not watch, either! -sorry BTW, it is (was, he died) Morris with an 'M' ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery
Alan If you have got those original Thomas books, that is the wide, but thin height books, you are giving your age away again. Mind you, so am I 'cos I can remember the same books that my parents got for me in the early fifties. With reference to the kids, a friend of ours has built a model of the Island of Sodor with a good representation of the various engines. He has carved the faces out of Miliput and made some very cretiable reproductions. When he put the model on show, you could not get near it for the kids, And heaven help the person who put the wrong engine with the wrong train!!!, ... or made the wrong move with the wrong train. A chorus of voices would shout, "He/she did not pull that train" etc etc, you get the idea. Hope Disney got their facts right before sending the film over here. I have three Thomas the Tank Engine fans in the family, and the two oldest can hardly wait to see the movie! I actually like Ringo as Mr. Conductor, although Alec Baldwin is not bad. ------------------ Wishin' I wasn't so far from the railroad...
sorry guys i can't get into thomas he is ho and i model n.just kidding....anyway i think percey gets the shaft a lot.and sir toppem hat get his undies in a bunch too easily.does anyone know what the entire layout they use looks like?pretty neat looking to me. ------------------ those who know me know my sense of humor, dont take me seriously. bnfan99
Hmmm... I need to borrow a kid or 2 to catch this movie... Someone mentioned a Baldwin brother... wash your mouth out with soap! That's all we need... a brooding narrator! hehe MR had an article on the production of TTTE, several years back. As usual, it was short on any truly useful information. Gary.
I think the models used are quite large, like #1 scale or larger. We had a full documentary on the making of Thomas stories several years back, but cannot remember the details. The eyes are radio controlled, I think. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery
I think they were large scale (No. 1 ? )for the ease of filming and modeling. The article in MR was the usual commercial for a product. I think it's even, Carlin and Starr, but i think the Carlin trainstation stories are stronger.
I liked Ringo the best... I love the modeling in the daytime shows..., great depth and perception... I love the people, they look like O or G scale people to me... ------------------ espee2 Home: www.tunnel13.com layout: SP's Newberg Branch in N scale
umm well i just went to see this thing with my wife and 4 yr old. it's ok if you're little but dry for grown ups. every voice is different than the 1/2 hr tapes. the only voice is alec baldwin and he isn't very good, not like carlin. they have some stoner british kid as mr. condutors cousin and to me this ruins it. also the story is too chopped up between shining time station and thomas and sodor. even my son began to lose interst after awhile. peter fonda " easyrider himself " wasn't too bad. all in all if your little it will be cool to see. have fun. ------------------ Norfolk Southern The Pack Mule of Transportation Mo-Pac RULES Heritage N-Scale Group, Joliet, Il.
