Ben, Got mine today. Excellent instructions. Well written. I'll be assembling it in the next few weeks. John
"Happier than a tornado in a trailer park!" I got mine, and no damage either. Are the instructions comprehensive enough? Well, I'm pretty sure I could build the actual 1:1 house from these instructions and the exploded diagram, so yes. I was (kinda) joking with a buddy of mine about using a Tortoise with the semaphore mod to lift the house up off the ground, and perhaps make it swivel somehow. I also have an adjacent trailer park where I'm putting mine, so it would be perfect. But, I don't model Kansas so I guess that would kinda lessen the impact of the "joke". (of course, not suggesting homes being destroyed is funny, but you know what I mean)
John, I am in n-scale. I buy z-scale structures to use in the background for forced perspective in N. I'm still a ways away from scenery anyway, and I don't even have my trailers for my trailer park. I'm not sure there are Z mobile homes, but I was planning on scratchbuilding them if not. Having said that, I do follow you guys' Z adventures quite closely. I've too much invested in N right now, and cannot afford to be a bi-scaler at this time, but someday...I may be in the mix.
Well this is good news everyone, looking forward the hear about the construction process, (The good and the bad). Ben
Ben, I just reviewed the instructions again and the only thing that I recommend is to include some photos or a photo of what the finished house looks like. Yours, John
Ben, I wanted to build it right away, but the heavy eyelids won. I must say it looks like a Robert Ray kit, but the test is how it fits. Robert kind set the standard on fitting. Doug, Make My Model makes z scale trailer. Here is some of my mobile homes.
Very true John, to compensate for now, I've just put some (3 sides views) on my Z central album, here is the link. http://zcentralstation.com/modules/xcgal/thumbnails.php?album=usearch&suid=314 Or, there is always my Flickr album, where I also have the same pictures. But I will definitely put those views in the next manual. Thanks Ben
Ben, I had to build your kit right away. So far the fit is good. I did brake couple of window frames, but I glue it back together. Maybe a little more laser so that they are easier to release. It could also be a case of me trying to build it even thought I am tired, but I like how the house its coming together. I only put up two walls so far, but I think the house is going to look great. Just wanted give you a little feed back.
Ben, I definitely like the photo on Z central of the bottom of the house showing the detail you put into the sub-structure! Plus it looks like it is flying just like in the movie! I'll have to watch the color portion of the movie this weekend where the house lands in OZ to see what colors it was painted. Cool! John
Thanks for the feedback John, I'll try to squeeze one or two more frames in the card for others, in case of accidental breakage. Regarding the "little more laser" issue, yes, my laser needs to be dismantle, yet again! With only 10 hours under the belt. For a so expensive piece of technology, the calibration has issues all the time, plus since the beginning I had to change one step motor, the whole front control panel, the main bus drive, and now I need to realign the laser canon, Dam!!! Epilog has some good support but they want to do everything by phone. So I got my hand on the realignment of the laser procedure, I'll give it a try on it this week-end. :bear-confused: So I apologize for the ones that needs to do a little more cutting. :bear-sad: Because sometime putting more laser power, mean less details and a more wide cutting line, which in z-scale equal a no-no. So on some of the kits, the parts were falling by them self, I had to put little pieces of tapes in the back to hold them in the grape for transport. It was all due to an alignment issue. (but rest assure everyone, all kits had the same quality) Ben John, like I was saying in thread #15 earlier, they din't put much colors in the color portion of the movie, frames and wall were all white. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showpost.php?p=432298&postcount=15 That's why I choose to put the frame tainted blue from a pic I had found on the web. Unless someone has the ''Wizardry of Oz'' book, I think there's more detail in there. Ben
Ben, Ahh in all the excitement I must have missed that about the painting. See how much a good idea can stir up interest. Long ago I began to follow the Robert Ray theory of collecting items in Z that I wanted - buy them as soon as they come out cause they may not be there tomorrow. However this house kit is wonderful! I hope you keep it in production for a long time. John
John As long as my laser stays focussed and aligned, I should be able to produce this kit for a long time.:bear-cute: Ben
Ben, I finish all the floor beams and the walls. Everything fits perfectly. My only complains is wheres the furniture?
Well! They were blown away by the tornado or course,:bear-laugh: Don't forget to put some pics of your finish house. I'm really impatient to see some finish products. Ben
I'm impatient to get my kit. Me-thinks the US Mail is holding out -- again. Probably went from Canada to Boston to who knows... Maybe today. ...don
Everything I buy that comes from Canada takes a while to get here. Like FastTracks and CDS lettering, add about a week to shipping. So I doubt it has anything to do with Ben.
...It's not Ben's shift. He posted it on 10/22 and today is the 26th. It is just floating around out there somewhere - maybe today. As you know, mail to us country hicks [post office definition] takes a little longer than to the "big" cities that have inside plumbing and electricity.
Don My guess would be, you should get it Monday or Tuesday next week, since I only got your letter Monday this week (Oct 22), from my deduction, it probably takes 5 to 7 days to travel from Montreal to Akron. Ben
