Thanks Rob, Rich and Kim for your insights on kits development. David regarding your request, it is done! I was able to push more fences in there. Ben
wow, ben! that is great! with that extra fence people will be able to put it more fully around the front. i'm sure folks will be very grateful for the extra lengths. the fence just finishes the details of the model, in my opinion. i guess i'll order another in a week or so! thanks for considering it. dave f.
I am thinking of putting the house on this spot. Its next to a railroad switch, so it would make a perfect home for a raifan, and best of all, its next to the scoop. The scoop is a ice cream and burger joint.
Nicely done! Robert gave us a good hint by using white chalk over the roofs, it make the shingles more visible. Ben
people have pretty much gotten the colors of the house. but i did find a link of someone who had earlier attempted its construction, and gives some details. fyi. i'm sure ben already knows about this site. http://www.beyondtherainbow2oz.com/heisey.html dave f.
A couple more photos of "Dorothy's House". Ben and I know where I messed up, but with a proper tornado reduction in speed and change of direction - we got it "fixed" -- sort of. This is one nice kit !! ...don ONE PHOTO and text below added 11/3/2007 - A lot of my layout does not have firmly affixed buildings. Here is a view of Dorothy's house set in place where another farm house was located. Typical farm with all types of crud, but has the important things like an outhouse in the foreground and a pontoon boat between the trees, Both engines are DCC with the Marklin Steamer using a Lenz Gold Mini and an uninterruptible power package. I still have to modify couplers and put the shells back on. The tiny bridge in the center leads to a one vehicle tunnel behind the engines. The circus wagons are by Dietrich and the farm auger is by Dan Stirpe. Trees are by "everybody" [Archtrees, Jim O'Connel, Loren Snyder, a few by big companies] including a few by me. I detest having trees all the same color or style. The grey rock is broken ceiling tiles while the tan rocks are generally from molds using resin by Bragdon. Not much paint on anything, but LOTS of thin wash coats using a VERY SMALL brush. No air brushing in the view including weathering of the rolling stock or buildings. That is generally weathering powder and a small brush and LOTS of brushing. When I get some flat areas Dorthy's house will be more permanently located. ...don
Merci Ben, The "village" of Oz arrived in perfect condition today in Luxembourg in my letter box. Crazy quick and good looking. Thanks to Canada
Yes thats the good thing about Letter-post service, it is fast compare to box packages, which usually takes 3 to 4 weeks. Your letter was barely under the 2cm thickness limit. I don't think 4 kits would have passed thought.:bear-err: Glad everything arrives safely.:bear-smile: Ben
Hello Ben, Hit the wrong key on that last post. I received the kit today and it is outstanding, I hope you have more of them in the works. The instructions and the multi colored exploded view are an excellent idea and should be an great help to those that haven't attempted a kit like this before. Keep up the good work. Bob
Thank's Bob for the comments, hope you'll have fun building it.:bear-tongue: I also hope Jürg will receive his soon!!!! Or there is a post office worker currently building 2 houses in his basement. :bear-angry: Regarding your question about "In the works". Even though I wont be at home for a couple a days I'm working on Billy's house from the Polar Express movie.:bear-wink: Ben
I just finished last week all the details and manual that go with my new windmill kit. It should fit nicely beside an old barn or Dorothy's house, "there's one in the movie". I did not say it in the manual, but painting the truss structure before assembling it should be easier than painting the whole tower by brush, or, painting it using an airbrush should also ease the job. Yes, some of the structures will curve after painting, but let the parts rest for about 30 to 45 min for drying, and they will come back mostly flat, as example we can see some similar parts made of the same material during the painting process, it proves my theory. Wet paint, After 40 min of drying. Any left curvature can be taken out by plying the material "a little" in the other direction. That's the nice thing about tenderize veneer. For decor purpose, I've also included 4 old carriage wheels. As usual, the kit is available at Zscalemonster Ben
Ben, thanks for making this as a kit. we love your houses, but i bet you'll see more of these on layouts and modules. everybody needs one! dave f.
Ben, I just purchased a windmill for the CCRR. Thanks. Now go vote for my photo in the Modeling Challenge Contest. Only Z entry. ha, ha. Cheers, Jim CCRR/Socalz44
