I have seen these old coal motors in all sorts of service on the northern transcon. Stacks, grain, oil cans, manifests and others. BNSF is sure getting their money's worth outta them.
Hard to believe these are now twenty years old! For my eyes, it almost tends to look a yellow hue, rather just bleached out orange.
Paint could look a lot worse. A lot of old Ann Arbor cars got an orange that would fade to an interesting shade of pink....
Great shot Kurt. Still occasionally see these old girls on coal drags that make it into the southeast as run through power.
