Every year, I follow several hikers on YouTube. This year, PeeWee has been hiking the Appalachian Trail, and she's over 1,000 miles in. In her latest video, she's in Pennsylvania and ran across a Budd RDC-1 working on the Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern. I tried to queue it up to the relevant bit, but the link isn't cooperating. Forward to about 13:45 to see the train stuff. Maybe it will be of interest to someone.
Cool. I rode on an RDC once up in Duluth, Minnesota. As for the Appalachian Trail, I have hiked a few segments of it but I believe I am too old to every hike it from end to end.
I rode a NYC RDC-1 back in 1952 from Chatham, NY through Pittsfield, MA to North Adams, MA. I was the only one in the car from Pittsfield to North Adams so I was standing next to the motorman. We were doing 80 mph most of the way over track where I couldn't see the rails for all the weeds, and we were rocking back and forth wildly.
