Trip to York for model train show

Arrived early saturday morning to catch the 0803 GNER express to York to visit the 43rd annual model railway exhibition.

This is our train arriving, a GNER class 91 complete with "Mallard" refurbished stock.

I just had to show the wrinkles on the bodyside

The bright red doors denote that the train has had the "Mallard" refurbishment/upgrade. These trains are very highly regarded.

Back at York station after the show, a busy scene awaited us. Picture taken from the footbridge.

 

A Virgin tilting Voyager, class 221 arrives from the south. This will form our train back to Doncaster. My first ride on one of these units.

 

The train comes to a stop in platform 4. When the driver changes ends the red tail lights will be replaced by white headlights.

So many bright colors on those trains. Quite nice to view, compared to the dull stuff we have these days.

We changed trains at Doncaster which gave me a half hour or so to photograph trains

Here is an EWS class 66 approaching with a steel slab train.
