I'm getting ready to weather some trucks and couplers. What are some of the techniques you use?

Hi, John. I just weathered and upgraded a few NHRR pieces. I used Vallejo paints, chocolate and dirt, and just painted it on the trucks. I did not do the inside. I did the same, carefully to the couplers, too. They came out OK. Let me take some pix of them. See if you like the effect. I upgraded my rolling stock with metal wheels A No. 2 Round brush was adequate for the job. Jim

Hi, John. Here are a couple of pix. I did these a couple of weeks ago. I have a few more that have been weathered but I haven't put on metal wheels or painted the trucks and couplers. BTW. Most of these were done 20 years ago, or so. They all had Marklin couplers. I have replaced them with MTL I do not take very good photos, but I hope they help. Painting them was easy. Use a cradle to hold them in a good position. Jim DSCN5138.JPG DSCN5138.JPG DSCN5137 (2).JPG

My favorite way to weather trucks and wheels is to brush on Model Flex rail brown.

On new modern era cars I like to paint the wheels with rustall, and dab some blue paint on the truck bearings. and on older stuff i just rustall everything, followed by a wash of alcohol with residual black paint.

I just received from Micro-Mark yesterday a set of Vallejo's "Rust & Chipping Effects" paints. It is a 7-step process. Best for larger objects. I look forward to trying it out. Jim
