    Hello,

I’ve replaced the kato couplers with Unimates on the Kato F7.

    1. Should I be flying the spring to the back of the Unimate to prevent it from slipping.

    2. There seems to be some back and forth play (not side to side that’s a good thing I mean forward and backward) in the coupler box. Is this normal or should I shim the inside to keep it in place or maybe glue the coils of the spring. Any tips from someone who had done this would be appreciated.

It looks in your picture like the spring is in place behind the coupler..........if not, then you want to put it in. Some play is fine........as long as the spring is maintaining pressure on the coupler. You want the coupler to move a little, but the spring should always maintain contact.........if you pull the coupler all the way to the rear, and the spring loses contact, then you need to shim/stretch spring. Unimates work well for connecting units like E's and F's.
