So I’m walking outside at 6:20 a.m. to feed Fritz (our outdoor stray cat) and looked across the road just in time to see what appeared to be a full blown beautiful yellow UP passenger train go by heading south. One of the cars was decorated with an American flag paint job. Didn’t see the locomotives in time because grain bins blocked the view. We have many many trains go by daily but I’ve never seen this before. Wonder what that was all about?
Didn't see where you were, but the 4014 is out on tour and would be pulling a train like you described. Should be in Kansas today.
Unless it was gliding downgrade with a slightly opened throttle and no need for whistling. In that case steamers are quieter than any diesel.
I’m in Wolf Lake, IL. Southern tip of Illinois. The steamer isn’t scheduled to come by until Aug 28th. It was so awesome to see those beautiful passenger cars roll by. They seemed spotless.
