Via Rail Canada will be getting bids from comapnies shortly for 14-21 new locomotives. The 2 main candidates will most like be the P42, and F59PH. The new locomotives will replace the 7 remaining LRC locomotives, and 7 remaining F7s in active service. There is even the possibility of a few F40PH-2 locomotives being replaced. The new locomotives would be mainly in corridor service-however some will probably make it west once or twice. What will happen to the Fs and LRCs is not known as of yet. Happy Railroading! Um, we aint got any F7's, I believe I've asked you before where you get your information from, I think you better check with somebody from the company before you just write what you hear....Alot of that info isnt true. Bannon C. Woods Jr Operational Safety & Regulatory Affairs. VIA Rail Canada Inc.
Does anyone from Canada or who is a fan of Canadian passenger trains know what kinds of locomotives and equipment are used on the Polar Bear Express, run by the Ontario Northland Railroad? I was on that train once, and I've never heard about it ever since. Is it still running? The unique thing about it that I remember is that it was a few passenger cars and a baggage car tacked on to the end of a freight train. Any information would be helpful. Thanks! Via has F9s, woops. They do have a contract out for 14-21 locos, and there are a few F40s that aren't in all that great shape. Also, I beleive there is one at Alstom being repaired/rebuilt? and by 7 LRCs left, I meant in ACTIVE service dane ------------------ BCRailKing@Canada.com Teen Association of Model Railroaders- for information, contact Dane N. at Dane_Nicholson@tamr.org http://www.tamr.org [This message has been edited by BC Rail King (edited 18 October 2000).]
