Arrival back at Bled Jesero. Ready for the last leg to Jesenice But first has to wait for a regular passenger train to pass.
Alan, what an excellent and comprehensive report! Looks as though you had a wonderful trip. Thanks for the photos of you with a beer and Irene. :teeth:
Now you're really making me homesick. Perhaps 50 Yards back from the other side of that station is the house I spent part of my childhood in. I got my first cab ride in a loco very much like that. The memory is foggy I was only about 4 or 5. since it was in the station just the other side of the tunnel, for all I know that could be the very same engine. My uncle would tell me war stories when I was a kid. He said the germans kept an armored train in the Nova Gorica station. when the Allied bombers came over, they would pull the train into the tunnel to protect it from arial attack. I'm so glad you got the ride that steam train. Good choice on cars to ride in. Those old wooden seat cars have to be turn of the century (previous century), very nice. I just want to thank you for these new Gorica pictures, your pictures have really brought back good memories. I can even smell the cedar pines that grow in that area when Ilook at those photos.
Pleased the pics brought back good memories for you Geeky. We loved the train ride, indeed the whole country. Everywhere is covered by forests! Good to see almost all the stations have loading ramps for loading logs onto railway wagons.
I told my sister about your pics and will probably be sending her a link as well. Just telling her about your pics got us both talking about the old times. Once again Thanks!
Two days after our steam trip, we took trains for Bled to Jesenice on the Austrian border, then down to the coast at Koper (near Trieste, Italy), changing rains at Ljubjana. A double-headed internation expressfrom Austria departs Jesenice for Croatia.
At Ljubjana we had some spare time as our ongoing train, IC503 to Koper was delayed 50 min. by signalling problems. Here is 'Moped' 342-030 A Plasser track machine A railcar in advertising livery
Rolling slowly into the station was a demonstrator EMU from Italy. SZ is looking to buy more new EMU's and are looking at various options. Our train arrives behind a 'Brigitte'
On the way we saw another plinthed steam loco. View forward on one of the almost constant sweeping curves on this route Passing another 363 on a heavy freight
On the steep descent towards Koper port, we pass an ore train headed by a 363 waiting in a siding. with another 363 pushing at the back
