Hi everyone, you probably noticed I haven't been on the board in a while. Thats because I just came back from Disney World in Orlando Florida in which I took a much needed 2 week vacation. I had lots of fun and because I took 2 weeks I was able to see and do alot which included visiting the many parks at Disney World. I took around 500 pictures, many of those train related so all of you will be in for a treat. The first pictures I will post here in the G scale section which is the Disney outside G scale garden railway which you will find in Epcot next to the country of Germany which by the way has the best fudge I have ever tasted. I remember reading about this garden railway in Disney in Garden Railway Magazine and it was sponsored by LGB for years, but with the situation of LGB getting bought out by Markling, I'm not sure if the sponsorship is still there. Anyway, the Railway garden was in operation, but few trains were going around, the garden railway itself was huge and beautiful as you will see. The buildings were also great and there was running water with bridges, it was a site to see. It was also nice to see that a garden railroad could conincide with nature, too many poeple build a railway and dont want the insects or other types of animals in thier garden railroad. Granted there are some destructive animals, but most are not or some are in the begining but not in the end such as caterpillars which turn into butterflies or lady bugs which the larvae can be a little destructive, but in the end these bugs are necessary. There were many reptiles crawling around, all of them harmless salamanders, newts or geicos as you will see in the pictures.
Part 10 Part 10 of Disney G scale railway. Be sure to check out my photo album later as I will add even more train related pictures. I will put a link in my signature to make it easier to navigate to my photo albums. Enjoy the Garden Railway pictures of Disney.
Very nice. I had no idea they had one of those there. Now I do and will look forward to seeing it when I take my family there in the next couple of years.
Thanx everyone for your nice comments. Be sure to visit my photo album here > http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/album.php?albumid=769 I have posted many train related pictures under the title The Trains of Disney
G scale Disney train sets Unfortunately Disney does not offer and memorabilia geared towards their railroad except these train sets in below pictures. The guide of the train tour stated that Disney does not think such items will sell, so the tour guide suggests when you visit to stop at the Town Hall in Magic Kingdom and fill out a comment card.
Um, That's not true, I believe there is a Bachmann HO and/OR N scale set. Maybe the tour guide said that because the Bachmann sets are themed to DisneyLAND not WDW I believe they have a CK Holliday set in HO and N. They might have an E. P. Ripley set as well. And I am positive there is a G scale set for at least one of the DL engines. And of course, if you go to the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, you can see Walt's original Lilly Belle live steam engine and cars. The WDW engines are very much under represented though.
It looks like they stopped making the Disneland set, but they do make a Carolwood Pacific set. That's the name for Walt's backyard live steam set. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Bachmann-Disneys-Carolwood-Pacific-Railroad/dp/B000N2IQJC"]Amazon.com: Bachmann Trains Walt Disney's Carolwood Pacific Railroad Ready-to-Run HO Train Set: Toys Games[/ame] Bachmann's old time 4-4-0 sets in N, HO and G are dead ringers though for the Disneyland engines and they make Holiday/Excursion cars as well.
________________________________________________________________________ We were told of the Lilly Belle #1 which is in California, but that was custom built and not a Baldwin locomotive plus the original Lilly Belle in California was not full size either at least what we were told by the guide. As far as the Disney trains, I meant the park itself does not sell products such as hats, pins, t-shirts and such geared towards the Disney Trains. If you look in my photo album you will see the Lilly Belle in Florida is #2 and full size even though it's a narrow gauge. As far as what other manufacturer may have made any Disney Trains I'm not sure other than rumors that Accucraft made a Lilly Belle, but never seen one. You would think as much as Walt Disney loved trains there would be all kinds of train related items, I searched high and low and low and did't find any in Magic Kingdom. The only train related item I found was in Epcot and was a Coca cola tree ornament.
_________________________________________________________________________ I have pictures that I will load up in my photo album of the Carolwood Pacific train. The pictures are of a poster with black & white pictures of the original Carolwood Pacific. The guide told us that Walter Disney was badly injured in a polo game accident and couldn't do much due to neck injuries, so he started the Carolwood Pacific in his own back yard. It was only in operation from 1950 to 1953. Some friends were riding on the train and went too fast in a corner and the locomotive fell on it's side. When it did and since it was real live steam, it ended up burning a little girls foot when it fell over. Walt Disney felt so bad, he had the entire outside train dismantled. It was only up in operation one more time in 1956 for a advertisement and put back in storage. 2 of the original box cars reside in one of the Disney resorts which is Frontier resorts and are i glass cases, the rest of the train is in California in the Walt Disney Museum. The Caboose for this train was made by Walt Disney himself down to a bed, a actual working pot belly stove, toilet and all. A machinist taught Walter how to machine wheels and such. It was a great story.
