The website or blog is back up and running. Its been resurrected so to speak.
I'm not seeing a lot of visitors and that's to be expected.

I will be making some updates and edits in the near future.

Not the foremost in popularity as I take some issues head on. Butting heads
    with...well...others.

The how-to videos aren't mine. So you have a lot of ideas shared there.
Enjoy it if you be inclined or ignore it.
    That is your choice.

    Merry Christmas!

A great way to store your data is to get extra gmail accounts. Each one comes with google drive which is 5gb free storage. If it's mostly things like text and web code and a couple images , you can easily upload the items to google drive as an archive storage spot for old files. :)

So pleased that your site is back, Rick! Do what you can to back it up in case you have problems in the future.

Not to worry about backing it up.
More then likely my son-in-law will crash it as in trash it, after my demise.
One never knows when that will be and I'm hoping to be around for another 20 years. Knock on wood and not a casket lid...either.

    Thanks for your kind remarks
Now go and enjoy the heck out of this hobby.

Once again BarstowRick.com is down and I don't know why Word Press pretty much does things at a whim without letting us know what's up.

Pretty much thinking it's time to let it go. I put a lot of work into it. I was going through one surgery after the other during the time I created it. It seemed like the perfect thing to do while I was recovering.

A number of newbies to the hobby expressed their frustrations with all the advice out there and appreciated my helpful suggestions and how to's. Toward the last I wasn't able to track the number of quests. So, I have no idea how many visits we were actully getting. You can look for others to crash and burn as there are to many inherent flaws built into Word Press.

We were working on security issues but everything costs more nickels and dimes then I have in my pocket. I suspect it crashed due to some of those mal-ware issues.

Anyway, I'm saying good bye to BarstowRick.com. I'm letting it go. Fun while it lasted.
To many frustrations. Frustrate, frustrate, frustrate or so it seems.

Thanks to all for your support and kind words.
I'll still be around. Looks to be a move to Idaho is looming on the horizon.

Now do me a favor and go out and enjoy the heck out of this hobby.

Finding out it's been hi-jacked by the server. Not like what many smurffers talk about when they yell and scream someone has hi-jacked their thread. This is an honest to God hi-jacking. We may be able to recover it or not. So waiting to see what's going to happen next.

Every-time I've backed up files I lost the computer I experienced one or the other of the following.
I backed them up with or into my own computer, using the file options. The computer itself crashed.
One time to malware that got loose in it and another time to a hacker.
Guess what they weren't retrievable even by the experts
I tried burning some CD's but the program I burned them with...well...it was to old for my new computer to retrieve them.
I don't like backing up with outside sources, outside my computer... as that's exactly what Word Press is.
Obviously that doesn't work as the server hi-jacked it.
So, I truly don't know what the answer is.
    And so it goes.

Just exercising my right to grouse, grumble, gripe, swipe and flatulate a little. Grin, mixed with a grimace. Sort of.

I think I said I don't have the nickels and dimes to pay for such.
So it is what it is.

And as an update it crashed again and this time it looks like the server hi-jacked it. I mean truly hi-jacked it.

Waiting to see what can be done if anything to get it back up and running.
My son-in-law and I discussed this a couple of days ago. He's been working on it.
Kind of a wait and see

A phone call to the new server revealed the blog was intact but there was indeed security issues with it. They need to run a scan, followed by another scan to correct the problems. There is a cost. Not sure what my son-in-law will do and I may owe him in the long run of things. He's been to busy to mess with it. Even though it's paid for.

I can only hope we get it back up and running. Yes, I'm ready to give up on it should all else fail. A wait and see situation.

I've waited long enough and decided that if I brought it back on line...well...it would take to long to bring it up to date.

It featured a number of fine folk, craftsman, and fellow model railroaders in the hobby. How To Videos that in most cases illustrated the procedures and processes to build a train layout. Including scratch-building industries, homes and more. How To's on weathering train cars, updating train equipment and much, much more. I shared some tips that I use. Sometimes well received and other times not so much.

It kept me busy while I recovered from a number of surgeries. I could keep my mind off the time it took to heal-up.

I don't have the where with all to bring it back up and no, I'm not asking for anyone's help.

I authorized my son-in-law to crash it. Let it go. Unless something unexpected comes up and the tables are turned this is it for BarstowRick.com.

In the event you were one of those who tuned in to check it out. To those who enjoyed it or not. A big Thank-you to all of you.

A special Thanks to Ken, his interest and input as I started the website. He was influential in helping me with his good advice and helpful hints.

You guys and gals can keep this thread going or not. That'll be up to you.

Signing off on the above: BarstowRick-Out.

    Jeff,
I had no idea the Wayback Machine existed. I'm probably slower these days then it is. I will look at it later in the day to see how much might be worth retrieving. I noticed the videos are gone. I suspect that many of the ones I used have been pulled back by their owners or families.

    Thanks ever so much.

It is always worth checking the Wayback Machine if you want to view a web site that has been shut down or is no longer working. It lets you go back in time and look at older versions of a site, and you can often find a version that is somewhat complete. All you have to do is enter the original URL of the site or even just a few words that describe the site.

    The Wayback Machine is at:
