Alan That is a great web site. Something I have always wondered about. What are those 2 round things on the lower front of the engines?? They look like bumpers of sorts Dick
Dick, we call them buffers. Most railways around the world use these, and a centre coupling/hook, instead of a coupler like those in the USA and some other places, which does both jobs. But with the coupling screwd up tight, so the buffers are compressed somewhat, there is no slack action, which is a bonus. A negative is that no automatic uncoupling/coupling is possible. ------------------ Alan Curtis. Moderator.
